*** Nexus 7 2nd Gen thread ***

You can get a device called chromecast, plugs into your tv via HDMI and then you can stream from your tablet,pc, phone etc :)

Only $35 too :)

Thats not the issue, the slimport can get it on my tv. Problem is that when i open a movie on my nexus 4, it stutters like mad and is unwatchable. Works fine streamed on laptop/ps3 though. Wondered if nexus 7 fares any better or if its just as bad was all.

Chromecast cannot stream your own local content, it can only stream online stuff like netflix etc.

Turns out my nexus4 wasnt the problem, the version of XBMC i had was just not suited to it. Found one for nexus7 and works fine with the 4 too so thats a relief :)

Got a few questions

1) Is there anyway to cleanup and organise (maybe in to folders) the main menu, not the home screen, or at-least re-organize the icons (I know you can put them in to folders on the home screen but not the main menu) what about ordering them in a list? just want to see which is better if that is available

2) In the main menu, you have "Apps" and "Widgets" is there anyway to get rid of the widget sections as its kind of annoying :p

3) Is there anyway to turn off so that when I search through google on firefox it doesn't come up with a list at the top for ads, basically to understand what im trying to do, as an example, I searched for disable widgets in android, the search results showed the first page full of links to apps at the Google play store, nothing to do with what I was specifically searching for.

I have noticed it on other searches too, ads or links to something they are selling or an app comes up before any useful links come in

I think I may give chrome a go, had a few issues with browsing in Firefox. shame as this is my fav browser. but chrome seems to not glitch up now and again, I can watch embedded YouTube videos also

cheers will give your tips a try tomorrow

looking to recoup some cash and thinking of selling my ipad air to buy a nexus 7 (2013)

only use it for in home browsing, email and youtube (never for music)

would this be a wise move?

(i own a nexus 5 mobile so not new to android :) )

I really like my Nexus 7, wouldn't go for anything else on the market.

Browsing is great (I use Opera) and also use it for email, youtube, online radio, streaming media from my network etc. Does everything really well.

I only have the 16gb version but haven't found I'm running low on space as I have all my music on my phone and pictures on Dropbox.

Does anyone else have this problem?

When browsing this forum on your nexus 7, try and search for something, does the page go really big and it stops you from searching? This is with chrome.

Popped into JL today to have a play with the nexus 7. Was impressed with the screen, very nice!

Just the size of screen is what I'm not sure about, Coming from a iPad air

I think I will order one from rainforest site to try out and return it if don't get along with it

Well I was sceptical about the screen size at first and certainly compared to the iPads (even the mini) it feels small. But as I commute on a train a lot I've realised that it's a great size and form factor as I can actually hold it in one hand and type or swipe with the other. It also just about fits into a pocket. If it's only for home use them the size isn't ideal but for commuting and being mobile it's great.

Iv tested streaming avi and mkv videos over dropbox yesterday which seems to work well, going to see if googledrive is any good. Not bad if you just want to chuck some TV shows or other stuff and stream it
