*** Nexus 7 2nd Gen thread ***

Further to my problem 2 posts up I've noticed that since then the keyboard has been acting weird occasionally - not registering presses and when double tapping space to insert a full stop it deletes the last letter of the previous word and adds a space and full stop instead. But I can't recreate it every time, it tends to be with words that end in "s", like thi .

Check your Google Play Movies & TV app as you might have a copy of 'Shaun The Sheep: The Big Chase' waiting for you.

Still waiting for Lollipop here. I read in another site the rollout continues this week so hopefully see it soon. Love the new Gmail app though.

The WiFi version is out, but the Mobile Data version has not been released yet.

OK after saying what I did earlier, the update for Android 5.0 appeared about 8pm. Download said it was 397MB (or thereabouts) and installed reasonably smoothly. Because the tablet is a streaming and internet browsing device I didn't bother with any backups.

Had to leave the Nexus charging because the battery is low but will have a play around with it later. Initially love some of the improved looking UI but not sure about the unified notification/settings bar. Quite liked the settings drop-down from the top-right on Kit Kat.

Where has the settings drop down moved to?

As Swarfega mentioned there is now one unified notifications bar where you have to press a second time to get to settings (or use two fingers). Initial reaction was I prefer it before but I can understand the change and I'm getting used to it now.

Battery life seems to have improved and I'm reasonably certain this isn't a placebo effect. Not sure if this is a change in the OS, setting or misbehaving app (although I don't run a huge number above the vanilla Google apps). Overall the OS is very fluid although Chrome can still stutter at times when scrolling around pages.

One benefit is that that an app 'Percent Enabler' (for KitKat/L) font displays nearly all the time (from 99%) rather than at the c.40/50% battery life point as it did on KitKat (don't know why this isn't a basic option in Android) although the font size is very small.

However the app; 'Dashboard Widget' that I loved to run on the lock screen no longer works. Although some of the information is in the default notifications other information like weather and battery information is not.

I'm annoyed my 3G version is still waiting for a 5.0 update. I've never used the 3G function it was just cheaper when I ordered it!

I've seen mentions that the firmware has to be approved by some USA mobile networks :(

I think staggering it is a good idea - look what happens with Apple each time they release a new iOS, people report 2 day download times, crashing halfway through downloads, errors, etc. Definitely runs more smoothly by staggering. IMO a new os is no big deal.
