*** Nexus 7 2nd Gen thread ***

Not sure if this has been mentioned and I do apologise if it has. But has anyone noticed their 5GHz wifi not working on their devices since the latest updates? I am sure it was there when it was on 4.4.2 and 4.4.3. But now with 4.4.4, I cannot see my 5GHz connection. Only my 2.4GHz.

But saying that, my SGS4 has also been updated to 4.4.2 and that also cannot see my 5GHz connection. Only the 2.4GHz. And I have checked the router and it is broadcasting fine.

Hmmm. I too have a SH2. But it's on modem mode as I am using an ASUS RT-N53 router. Also dual band. And the 5GHz was working fine until I just noticed today. I'm using the router for Netflix/Chromecast related purposes. Since the SH2 doesn't have DNS settings within it.

Hmmm. Ah well I'll keep it on 2.4GHz anyway. Since the Chromecast cannot use 5GHz.

EDIT: Turns out it was the router. Just had to do a reset on it and started everything from scratch. Something to do with updating to the new firmware and not actually doing a reset for about 5secs after this. DUH!!

Quick question, I've got the newux 7, in a poetic case sitting on a gmyle charging pad, the pad has beeped one and shows a green light, and the battery run time on the nexus seems to be going up, but the nexus doesn't report it's charging, is that a bug or something in the reporting of the charging?

[edit]
Ok, it turned out as well as the first system update there were two more (so two at about 79mb and then a third at 2.4 or something), updated and it's now showing that it's charging ok:)
The idea of being able to charge it without plugging something into the usb socket really appeals to me, as it means the wear and tear on the primary socket can be reduced :) (also using blue-tooth headphones and keyboard with it).

Would you say they have quite a fast charging time compared to plugging it in? Or is it a dramatic decrease?

I've not really used it enought to measure accurately, but at a guess I'd say it was charging about a third slower via the pad, which would probably be about right as the pad outputs about 1000ma, whilst the official charger is something like 1.35a.

For me that seems quite reasonable given I can just drop the tablet on the pad whenever i'm not using it (no harder than putting the tablet down normally:)).

I'm probably going to have a bit of fun in the garage when I get some time and make a stand that holds the tablet at an angle with the pad in the right place :)

5ghz works fine on both my N7 and N5 on 4.4.4

I forgot to say if anyone needs a cheap blue tooth keyboard for their nexus you can get pokemon typing for the ds for about £7-8 which has a plain white keyboard included :) (press and hold the fn key on the right when you turn the keyboard on to let the nexus find it).

I picked one up yesterday and it's quite a comfortable size without being too big (if I was going to use the nexus for any real typing i'd use it, at the moment it's being used to enter passwords:p).

Hi guys just looking for some advice from nexus 7 owners. I have an iPad mini but have always wanted to give android a go. With the 2nd gen nexus being around £160 it seems like a good choice but just curious to know if there would be any benefit with this over my iPad?

Im new to the android world so would appreciate your advice

Cheers guys

I had a mini and sold it for a 2013 Nexus. Tbh I did not get on with Android so I sold the Nexus and went back to an Ipad mini which for me I find a lot nicer to use and considering the low spec of the mini it's just as quick if not quicker to use.

Stick with the iPad IMO. The Nexus is high spec for a cheap price. When it comes to buying a new tablet I would look again at other options. For now though don't waste your money on something you pretty much already have.

Thanks for the advice guys, think I will stick with what I have for now. It just seems that the better apps always tend to be android these days which is why I had been considering a change

IOS still has most the exclusives. They eventually come to android though. Android has more apps that can interact with the OS though.

Can anyone recommend a car mount for the 7 (especially one that will take it still in it's case), I'm considering trying it as a sat nave given some of the modern sat nav's are about the same sort of size, and if I can get a mount that puts it further forward from the window it should work out :) (our car has quite a long sloping windscreen with loads of space, but no real flat space below it).

Also any suggestions on a cheapish wifi card reader for it?
I've seen them starting at about £15 but have no idea what might be a good one :) Some offer an additional battery, but I'm basically after something I can plug a memory card/usb stick into and use for extra storage, if the reader has it's own battery that would be good, but I don't need something that can recharge the tablet.

Hello guys, quick response needed if possible, Someone at work is selling a 16gig version of this for £110, I have gen 1...is there a big enough difference to upgrade at that price? I should mentioned that it is brand new and unboxed.

Many thanks

Just got one of these for work, loving it so far and have hardly had to get the laptop out at all!

Any tips for printing from the built-in email client to a dell printer?
