***Nexus One Thread***

Thinking of getting this phone to replace my Magic, but before I do so a few questions....

1) How snappy do you find the phone? From what I've seen on YouTube, it looks very fast.

2) Watched a video about it and some bloke said 3G likely won't work in Europe...sounds like BS to me but can anyone confirm it works on Vodafone contract?

The phone is very fast, noticeable faster than the magic and I had that rooted with the latest cyanogen mod. I haven't even rooted the nexus one because it doesn't need a speed boost.

3G works fine for me, I've tried it on O2 and Virgin Mobile, so I would assume Vodafone would be fine.

Exactly what I wanted to know, thanks mate :) I also have a Magic rooted to Cyan's latest and the slowness is the main reason for upgrade.

A friend in the same position as you got jealous of my Nexus and ordered one too :D . He reckons theres a massive difference between it and the cyan-modded Magic, especially if you cyan-mod the Nexus :) UK 3G bands are the same as T-mobile bands in the US, so any phone capable of 3G on T-mobile USA is capable of 3G in the UK, so Vodafone does work on these Nexus's :)

On a slightly separate note - what screen protector have people been using?

I bought one off amazon for a whopping £3, just for an interim, and predictably it is already suffering and starting to peel!

I went with a full body skin from 'bestskinsever' was about $8 plus postage. Seems to have did the job but applying the thing was quite fiddly, for me anyway.

Had mine for just over a month now and have too say it is fantastic.

Phone is really fast, and with an ultra case The One skin and an anti-glare screen protector it's great to use easily.

Wish I'd not bothered with the dock though, as although it's useful, it means taking the skin off every night for charging. That gets annoying after a few days.

One thing I've been using that is a work of pure genius is the Swype keyboard. Well worth getting and learning to use. Got a fairly fast rate of words now I've spent a few days using it and have too say it's essential!

How has this sold, after launch the hype kind of died down a lot.

I'm interested as getting this as an upgrade in July, how have you guys found it?

How's the browsing?

Loving this phone, it's super fast the apps are amazing on the Android store and it just "works". Excellent phone :) .

My only (minor) complaint is that it doesn't ring/alert loud enough! I'm used to my N95 with dual speakers blasting out, I keep missing text messages and my alarm didn't wake me up this morning (the N95 in a different room, even turned off, woke me up but the N1 next to my head didn't!). Is there any way to make it louder?

Had mine a week now and love it. Only have the stock rom at the moment because I'm scared that if I have to send it back I'll have voided the warranty. But definitely want to root it and experiment.

Heard good things about the htc_ime keyboard; is it correct that you can install this without rooting?

If it's like previous Android phones, yes. If I get a Nexus it'll be one of the first things I do. It's a lot better than the stock kb IMO.

TBH i was scared to root it at first, but a mate who'd previously had a Magic had rooted his within days :o The extra RAM available from running Cyan ROMs is nice, as are the overclocked and undervolted kernels :D Definitely glad I rooted...

Yeah, the extra ram would be nice. Having said that the OS is zippy and there's no lag or anything. Does the Cyan rom affect battery life? I've heard a few complain that it does (maybe it's been fixed?).

Cheers for that. I might look into it.

Not had any problems with the stock keyboard to be fair. It does a decent job of rectifying typos and predicting what I wanted to type. The voice recognition has been mostly great for me too (despite my Yorkshire accent :D)

Hard to say, my battery seems to have a mind of its own, I take it off charge in the morning, usually forgot to turn off the wifi, then walk 15mins to uni, in that time it sometimes drops 3%, sometimes none at all, with seemingly no rhyme or reason for it :s Anyone ordering a Nexus fancy ordering me a second battery at $25 :P - There is no way I'm paying google $25 for a battery, and $30 to ship it :o

That won't change, what HTC_ime gives you is the ability to long-push to get a different character, like using a ctrl button.... You'll love it once you try it. I think it can be added without root, search XDA for it, its either in themes or development of the Nexus sub forum :)

Just tried HTC_ime

i like it better than stock.

Does anyone know a good music player? Stock one sucks and i need it to grab album art.

I have tried Mixzeng (sp?) Museek and rock on and they all suck imo
