Nexus Prime

I'm just hoping these specs are daily fail style bs. I was pinning my hopes on this being my next phone. No way im paying top whack for a phone with old internals. If those really are the specs, then I'd pick the galaxy s2 ahead of the nexus prime.

On Giz

"I have problems with the truth of this leak. See the poster, under the Galaxy nexus nameplate is a row of icons. One of these seems to suggest this phone will have a TV tuner. This is not an unusual thing in Asia, but unless they are making a specific model for the asian market WITH a tuner (and an aerial which the phone shown does not have, then I call fake."

Thoughts?

Really hope he is right but it seems like a glaring oversight given the elaborate nature of the rest of the spec, images etc.

Everything else seems completely kosher so to put that icon in there by accident would be a rookie mistake. Still; heres to hoping.

I don't think that anyone is saying that this will be slow. I can almost guarantee that it will be fine. What people are unhappy about is that fact that this will cost £500 and its internals are old hat. If they are releasing a phone and making a ho ha about it then they should make it at least a top of the range handset. The only thing about this handset that I am liking at the moment is the resolution.

It is old but there are also very few SoC with faster GPU's. There are only 2 SoC that are in production that have a faster GPU-the Exynos in the GSII and the A5 in the 4S and the latter isn't likely to feature in an android phone! As TI are the reference platform for ICS the most likely chip was always going to be the 4460.

Anyway the most important thing is the software and the 720p screen.

and the American SGS2 has a 1.5cpu?

One of the networks in the US have a 1.5ghz CPU but it's based on older tech. Nearly all dual cores are based on ARM's A9 cores while Qualcomm's is based on something between A8 and A9. Early next year they will be releasing their new custom core which will be much faster than the A9's but probably not as fast as the A15 dual cores that we will see at the end of next year.

I've really got comfortable with the size of the SGSII now, however I don't think I would want to go any bigger. I can also see my self struggling to go smaller, like to 3.5" :p

What about the Adreno 220 equipped SoC's?

The screen on the nexus prime sounds like its main selling point to me. At 720p with that size and super amoled plus it will be pretty awesome. Just a shame about the incredibly average CPU/gpu.

I thought it wasn't likely to be a + screen, but the lesser Pentile one, making text and 1 pixel width lines look dodgy and certain shades of colours look wrong (greys becomming pink for example).

I'll wait for the benchmarks. If ics is optimised for the ti 4460 then hopefully it will fly. The screen interest me greatly. Got an iPhone 4 and feel the screen is too small for the resolution.

It is a pentile afaik, but I'm not sure you can compare it to the 3.7/4" pentiles of old, they were 233-252ppi, this one will be 315ppi so a fairly large increase which may reduce/eliminate the issues...

If true I may pass

Battery, camera and design are my main concerns, not the megapixels but the potential quality.

Do kind of like the look of the razr, perfect phone size too.
