** NHL & Ice Hockey Discussion **

Go to bed 3 hours early and wake up at 3 :p

I usually only catch the 3am games on the weekend, although I've taken half days to catch some mid week games at 1am.

Hopefully ducks will play better tonight, for a team with so much potential its a shame we have to rely on Anderson to keep us in games atm. Offensive line 1/2 need to get into gear..

The Ducks so far have been one of the worst teams in the league. Another shutout from a pretty average Avs team with Berra in goal.
The Ducks have all the talent but the just look like they are playing in slow motion at times.
Deff been impressed with the Sharks though, but they were really good 2 seasons ago, they just had a bad one last year. But like the Blues, they need to prove their worth at the end of the season!!

Montreal are looking scary though. They are playing with more freedom than last season, to go with their D and Price which carried them last year. If they keep up this style they are one to watch for sure.

Other than that, i am also liking what the Cayotes have done. I can see them having a lot of blowout games (for and against) as they seem to have just went for pure speed - should be an exciting team to watch and Smith is capable of helping them push for the playoffs.

Be very interesting to see how things stand in 2-3 weeks when it settles down. Some big teams from last year down at the bottom!

Been happy with the Blues mostly. Deff more offensive depth this season but the D has been leaking goals so they need to sharpen up at that end. I think they ought to start Allen as the No.1 and just stick with him all year ready for the playoffs. Blues have suffered from not having a No.1 goalie for a while now. It's time to pick the young up and comer and go with him.

Devils Rangers was a delight to watch.

the devils are so monumentally crap, its like watching an AHL team. They are very out of their depth.

if it wasnt for Palmieri and Schneider, I don't think they would have won that one.

Yup couldn't agree more, Offense just doesn't seem to want to score at all. Stayed up to watch the Avs game and them scoring in within a minute I knew it wouldn't be a good game :(

Finally got our first win last night though, defense is currently scoring more goals than the offense (3-2) but finally seeing them get some goals was a relief. Hoping it was just a bad start to the year, usually the Ducks are excellent at the beginning of the season, peak mid season then seem to lose it at the end.

Maybe their going for something different this year? :p

Well being good at the end is preferable so maybe they are :p

I'm pretty sure it's just a poor start - although why that would be is anyone's guess after the pre-season. But IMO they are still the best team in that division - the unknown will be if the Sharks are the real deal again or just starting quick as they often do.
The rest of the pacific teams are mid tier teams.

We'll know more by week 20 or so I guess. When there is enough games for results to be true form and not just flukes.

I'm impressed with the Blues though. I wasn't sure what to make of them before the seasons started but I'm now convinced they have improved not just into a better team, but one more primed to play well in the playoffs.
But...they have been one of the leagues best plenty before and never went anywhere...lol

Really good game last night though. They ought hard against a good Jets side and in the end fully deserved the win and controlled large parts of the game.

Only reason Jets were really in it a lot of the time was really really daft penalties early on. So they need to clean that up.

urrghhh....

Pretty much my reaction to every Ducks game atm.

Watched the game on thursday night and went to bed after the second period.

Still hoping they shake this stupid start but soon we wont have enough to come back from it.

Looking at Montreal fixtures they could be going on one hell of a run here. They just seem to be so solid in all areas.

As for the Ducks..when does it transition from a bad start, to a bad season?
A good team having a bad start is usually a few games, or due to bad luck etc. Quite frankly they just look utterly awful at the minute!

Looking forward to tonights games!!

Blues v Islanders is usually a fun game to watch

Watched Caps Canucks last night and just finished Caps Oilers, what a game :)

Kuznetsov really coming along nicely now.

No goals again..... shaking up the lines is stupid and the way their playing at the moment is just peewee hockey.

1 awesome save from anderson then he let in 3 goals... and one shorthanded.

I feel as blitz says its gonna just be a bad season.

Ducks vs Hawks was awesome game to watch, I'm not even disappointed that the ducks lost in OT. They played a hell of a lot better than they have been and got very lucky with the net popping out before the hawks scored.

Both teams played really well and deserved to win. Hopefully Ducks can take what they did last night and roll with it.

Ducks having Getzlaf out for 12 or so weeks is going to be tough.

after the delight of beating the rangers, losing to the sabres last night was a rough one.

the send off for Briere was nice though.

Didn't seem to affect us last night..... well until the second period where we just gave up.

First period showed how well the ducks can play, showed what we played like last year.

3 goals in 5 minutes and they all looked superb, then we went into the dressing room and came out another team.

Positives we can take away from last night was we actually scored goals... and for checking was excellent. Just need to not choke at the end of the 3rd like we seem to be doing.

I've only watched 2 ducks games this season and both of them had one stand out factor: movement out of their zone and speed in mid ice. As soon as they get a breakout or turnover opportunity they would make the pass or chip at it and not carry the puck with seemingly any urgency between the blue lines. Watching a team like the Habs shows just how badly the ducks are currently approaching an attacking play as a unit and not capitalising on things like line changes and PK from the other team.
I don't watch them.often enough to say that it is an inherent problem but it was a factor in both games I watched and I felt it contributed to the battering they took on the scoreboard.

Yeh they seem to dump the puck too much and I have noticed there lack of aggression into the other teams zone compared to teams who play us, last night was different in the first period, we looked a whole lot better.

Oh and getz is out for 12 days so hopefully he'll be back playing like he was last year.
