When I buy apples, I like to buy some green and some red. Just bought Golden Delicious and Braeburn which are the only ones I ever buy, they taste very nice. Granny Smiths, nah, too sour. What apples do you like and recommend? I saw some other reds called Gala and Pink Lady, and there's also Cox. Are they as nice as Braeburns?

Buy one of each and try for yourself? Everyone's tastes are different.

Personally I like a GD, nice crunch and sweetness about them.

Pink lady's are by far my favourite, during my stint in a fruit and veg shop I lived on them free of charge, make sure you get good fresh ones though I suppose that goes without saying.

How do they differ would you say from Braeburns? Juicier, sweeter?

Despite all the fuss about buying English apples, I don't actually like them much. I just don't like the taste of the big croppers that grow in our climate. Apples off people's trees in their garden is a different story, but anything that can grow big enough numbers to fill a supermarket shelf usually has an unpleasant texture and is too sharp for me.

Braeburn, Gala, Pink Lady and Fuji for me. Then Golden Delicious and when I was a kid there was a Jonathan apple that I like for obvious reasons :D

Some awesome british apples, just got off the beaten track of braeburn and cox. russets are great if you can get them.

Right then, several votes above for Pink lady, Fuji and Gala, so I'll try them next time. :)

Anyone got anything to say about the Cox apples?

Awesome if you get a good batch. But half of the time they seem to be quite poor.
On a good day they're my favourite but I usually end up just getting Braeburns as they seem a bit more consistent...

I pretty much only ever eat Gala. Crunchy, juicy and sweet. Very occassionally Pink Lady.

There was an apple that I had years and years ago that tasted amazing, but I can't remember the name of it. It was very very red in colour, almost deep red but still quite vibrant (iirc). Crunchy and very sweet. Haven't seen anything similar in colour in the supermarkets. Not sure if anyone knows what it could be?
