*** Nintendo Switch ***

I'm just surprised it's been revealed with such a short notice period to release. Nintendo usually announce much further ahead. Makes me wonder whether the dry release schedule for this year is actually because they maybe weren't sure when they could get physical copies manufactured and on shelves as they prefer to simultaneously launch, and if it hadn't been for COVID they'd have maybe announced end of last year or earlier this year (bearing in mind Nintendo manufacturing AFAIK is in Asia and COVID hit there end of last year).

Hopefully this means we will get some more games announcements for the rest of 2020 in the near future.

Guys any recommendations for a wireless controller ?

Not keen on £50 for the pro one. Looking at around £30 tops ideally from the rainforest place as I have a voucher for that amount.

I've heard good things about some of the more generics but as far as I can tell they are all missing features, and have much shorter battery life than the official pad. If you can find it for under £50 I really would recommend it. The battery really is great compared to virtually every other battery powered pad I've used.

Appreciate the thoughts mate. I will search around price wise.

Found one yesterday on Facebook marketplace, paid 300 from someone who clearly bought a few. The receipt says 279 from John Lewis beginning of May unopened and new.

My son had a mini breakdown when I showed it to him

Pro controller or death.

It’s pricey but the battery life is redonk and it’s just a darn good controller.

I can second this, me and the wife both have one. My wife HAS managed to run hers out, BUT that was after literally using it all of 2 days, leaving it on the night in between, and then it ran out the second evening. I can quite easily believe it was on for 30-40 hours expected.

An hour charge gives it a good couple of hours playtime also, so even if you forget and need to charge it for 10-30 minutes, you'll have a few hours of charge after. The official full charge time is around 6 hours.

I keep plugging mine in out of habit between uses, but I really should stop as it just doesnt need it

Bitdo pads are great, the sn30 is very nice but a bit above £30.
If you play docked a lot and have a spare console controller you could also just get the bitdo adapter and play with whatever pad you want.

Just be aware that the analog response on both the controllers and adapters is really bad. They snap to the cardinal directions making it act like a dpad and losing all accuracy.

For games that use the dpad though the 8bitdo and ps4 pads are awesome.

I've been exclusively a PC gamer for the past 16 years. The last console I had was a PS2 and I have never had a Nintendo console. Would a switch be a worth while investment? Considering I quite like the idea of being able to relax and play on my TV, or have a TV showing in the background while playing some casual game.

Are there any must have games? There always seems to be a flood of Mario games, so I wouldn't know where to start with those.

The Switch is an ideal console for a PC gamer.

+1

And yes there are must have games, but it depends on what you like. If you give us an idea of where to start, we can point you in some good directions.

PS, if you like F-Zero, Fast RMX on the eshop for about £15 is a no-brainer.

Cheers.

Games I'm most into are action adventure/racing/RPG/platformers and I guess FPS, but I get that fix on the PC so not too bothered about that on a console. Had a quick look at Fast RMX and it does look good.

Work your way down the list and see what tickles your fancy.

Mario and Zelda are must-have games.

The Xenoblade games and Dragon Quest are great RPGs.

Mario and Rabbids is a great XCOM light game.

There are many amazing platformers but most are also on PC.

I'm a 100% only PC gamer myself, the last console I owned was a PS2 on day 1 when that launched so it's been a hell of a long time. Last Nintendo console I owned was the SNES, so been a while :D

Owned my version two switch since the 24th Feb this year and I absolutely love it. So many great games already and new ports of older PC games keep on coming.

Zelda BOTW is very nice, been enjoying that, Assassins creed black flag looks incredible for a portable and even docked. As PC gamer I can't recommend the console enough and I hope Nintendo doesn't change the form factor that much once they come up with a replacement as Nintendo seem to love changing designs drastically on each console. They definitely nailed this one.

Being able to play games that were on the PC on the go is awesome.

Lots of games still on my wish list, can't wait until the 3 Bioshock games come out hopefully at the end of this month, plus Crysis remastered hopefully this year, never been a better time to own one. Can't wait to see how they pull that game off :D

Picked up so far,

Alien Isolation
AC 3
AC Black Flag
Doom 3
Hellblade
Metro 2033/Exodus
Saints Row 4
Skyrim
Zelda BOTW
Zelda Links Awakening
Witcher 3
WRC8 (this seems to have very bad stability issues though, crashes a lot for some reason)

Yeah, as a PC gamer, I don't really feel the need to get any of the consoles. Some of the exlusives look good, but not enough to justify buying another console that I know i'll rarely play. My Pc, Switch, and Vita (yes, a vita) is all I need.
