*** Nintendo Switch ***

Maybe should have waited but just bought a white OLED today. Had the Lite but was finding the screen too small.

The Zelda edition console looks really nice. Oh well.

I trust Nintendo to know what they are doing with Zelda but this just feels like they are trying to lean far too hard on the sandbox element of BotW. The best part of BotW was the exploration of a massive, diverse and vertical world. Search for shrines. Learning a cool new mechanic and playing around. The bulk of it was exploration though.

Cant wait for it personally. Got it on pre order. It is the ain reason I never sold my switch. Soon as I am done with it I will sell it along with my switch.
 
I’ve invested heavily on digital games so I would never sell my Switch. Hopefully Nintendo will allow you to move your purchases to future platforms like everyone does but knowing how they like to do things they probably won’t. Anyway yeah Zelda sequel day one. Not bought a full priced Switch game for ages but I have to have this.

I'm sure I remember anything purchased on the Wii Shop channel could be "upgraded" to the Wii U for like £5?
 
Had the notification about the TOTK Switch preorder today but decided not to buy. As much as I like collecting Nintendo gear I think a third Switch is hard to justify. If I didn't already have an OLED then it'd be a different story.

I'm contemplating picking up a Switch again and a big part is because of the Advance Wars remake - I never played them on GBA but I did spend a lot of time playing the DS games and loved it.

Managed to get it ordered for a fairly good price from Currys so yes I'll be playing it. Only ever played the DS game which I very much enjoyed until I got stuck on one level. Remakes of the GBA games will be all new to me.
 
I am playing through it now again after playing it at launch. It’s a stunning game and I can’t wait for the new one. Just something magical and different about it that no other open world games have. Amazing.

I remember some frame issues it had back then as well but it’s smooth as anything now docked. Looks lovely on my OLED.
 
BotW runs better on newer versions of the Switch than the original model, IIRC it was something like the chip revision in the updated battery and OLED variants slightly increased memory bandwidth or something along those lines, pretty sure Digital Foundry did a bit on it back in the day.

Just a shame there won't be a Switch 2 in time for this, the Pro sounds like its got canned at this point due to a combination of the chip shortage, and it now being too late in the life cycle, but the base model Switch is really beginning to feel crippling, and I am sure chip technology has moved on sufficiently since the original chip was designed, to produce something SUBSTANTIALLY faster in the same size/heat/power/cost envelope now, as if I remember right it's essentially a 2014 design, so almost a decade at this point!

Knowing Nintendo they're too stubborn to actually do a Switch 2, even though we love the hybrid gimmick.

I really do need to go back and replay/finish BOTW, my wife ended up stealing it for a long time, and I helped her with a chunk of it, but my own playthrough got shelved for various reasons some time ago.

You think they won't do a switch 2 in the same/similar form factor? They most certainly will with the runaway success it has been.

I REALLY hope they will, but Nintendo over their history have a stubborn habit of refusing to take the easy wins and always needing some new gimmick. I really hope they have learnt and will give us a true next gen Switch, but...this is Nintendo.
