*** Nintendo Switch ***

I think the route they're taking is pretty clear. A console you can take with you when you leave the room :p

Still think nintendo should release their games on other platforms, they would make a mint! This looks interesting purely for Zelda but otherwise not sure on the route their are going.

Why would they make more than using their own platform?

They profit from every piece of hardware sold, and they do not have to pay the high licence fees that they would have to pay for releasing games on other platforms.

Their current business model makes them more successful than either Sony's or Microsoft's gaming divisions so why would they want to sacrifice that?

lol I know that I mean just that I don't think it will really compete with it's main competitor, the mobile phone. As a console it will be eaten alive by PS4 Pro and Xbox "I'm a beast and best console ever!!" scorpio, and handled is dominated by phones.

Just seems a strange half way house to me. But I am a nobody so good luck to them as nintendo do make some amazing 1st party games just like sony.

erm it's simple commerce... More people to sell too potential of more sale = more revenue = more profit.....

Why are activision so rich selling pretty much one rubbish game???? Because they can sell to 200million people rather than 20-50 million....

As for sales of DS. What is the average amount of games sold to every DS across the world? I am guessing not a lot. I am not slating it and clearly you want one, I was simply saying a personal view...

PS

In terms of operating income, or profit, PlayStation made 88.7bn yen (£538m). Nintendo made 32.8bn yen (£207m)

It's not because of cawa dowdy being multi platform, it's because of marketing hype.

Nintendo don't really understand how to market their products well.

Good numbers fair enough, but do remember that nintendo classed wii sport that was bundled as a sale so numbers are a bit inflated... Otherwise point take, still think they could sell more! Going to be interesting to see their latest creation

Now if only they could only combine those console numbers with the handhelds they'd be on to a winner. Oh, wait...

Good luck to them, I hope they pull it off. I think this is a really exciting piece of kit. Looking forward to Friday.

Yep good luck, its good to see innovation rather than an gpu arms race. I love my PS4 for first party games but always go back to PC. If nintendo fail then it could be the last console they do which would b ea huge shame. Probably annoy xbone fanboys but it's terrible for 1st party games, Sony and nintendo have the best game developers

Nope, Nintendo are not like Sega. They have a few coins in the bank to afford failures and have IP's Sony and Microsoft would dream of.

Nintendo could release a high powered console to compete against Microsoft or Sony. They choose not to as they still have many ideas.

Yeah. Even if Switch fails, which I do not think it will. Nintendo could easily make a PS4/XBone type console and compete with them. Very easy now as they are essentially PCs, nothing much unique about them as far as I understand.

Yeh don't get why everyone is saying Nintendo should release a PS4 clone. The Switch is at least an attempt to be different and provide a new experience.

Personally, I 've said that but only because I love Nintendo and want them to have the third party games as well so that they become even more popular. No one could stop them then, it would remove the need for ANY other console.

Hope the switch does well.

I'd be entirely disinterested if Nintendo just went down the same route as MS/Sony. Nintendo's strong suit has been their first party titles but their problem recently has been those first party titles were spread across two platforms, both platforms pandering to a gimmick which neither enhanced the games or interested core gamers(motion controls/3D).

For a while I've wanted a console from Nintendo which consolidated their handheld and home console library and has traditional controls, this ticked the boxes for me. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but I see this as potentially a great addition to my gaming hardware collection and a great complementary system to my gaming consoles/PC.

Remember, as glorious as full HD games are there are equally as many games that I hold in high regard, and can still play to this day, even though they look like a blocky mess. If Nintendo's next slew of first party titles can reach the lofty heights of 'Link to the past', 'Ocarina of time', 'Super Mario World', 'Mario 64' etc... it won't matter if they don't checker-board upscale to 4k or run at 60fps, will it?

If it sells enough, regardless of the specs, the third party games will come.
