*** Nintendo Switch ***

I've never played Splatoon but I'm struggling to see the appeal of it - are you basically running around an arena splatting everything with your colour to win?

There are several multiplayer game modes. The standard (and most casual mode) is simply cover more of the map in your teams ink (while fragging each other), but you can cover up each others ink so matches can be quite back and forth. The ranked modes (Tower Control, Rainmaker and Splat Zones) are more intense as they have focused objectives that require more coordination and strategy to win.
What makes Splatoon most unique is how your teams ink coverage on the map influences how you move around and approach opponents. You have to be aware of the current ink coverage around you because you can only swim in your own ink and doing so allows you to evade the opponents attacks (but doesn't make you invincible) and makes you hard to spot.

It is a multiplayer game first and foremost, but the original had quite a fun single player mode too, it was short at around 4-5 hours but sweet - the final boss is one of my favourite bosses ever!. I expect Splatoon 2's single player will be a nice addition too.

There's a good chance they'll have another "Global Testfire" event before release so you may get a chance to try it out.

See, the waiting has already paid off, you can get the bundle now and potential save a few quid (or just have first dibs on new colour joyconns if the Splatoon bundled Switch comes with the new colour Joyconns). Patience is a virtue.

While I appreciate the encouraging thoughts, lets see if I actually manage to hold off on this first :p

Getting the bundle would make sense as I intend to get Splatoon 2 anyway. Plus the joy cons look friggin awesome.

I did doubt we'll see farcry 5 but yeah I am interested to see what they bring.

Far Cry 5 on Switch - Switch really does have good 3rd party support
Far Cry 5 not on Switch - Switch doesn't have great 3rd party support, it's the WiiU all over again.

I remember when the WiiU release, there were games like Dishonoured, Crysis 3 and Far Cry 3 coming out around then. WiiU got none of those, even though Dishonoured was on PS3/XB360 and wasn't all that demanding performance-wise. Nintendo tends to let small chances like that slip by, if they want to compete against PS4/XB1, they need to at least try and grab some of the 3rd party games that those systems get too. Having a game that's on every other system except for yours is not a good way to show that you 'have 3rd party support'.

Tbh I don't care. I bought the Switch to play Nintendo games, primarily. If other stuff comes along that I fancy then it's a bonus. I already have the other two consoles if I want fc5.

I don't think Nintendo are trying to compete with Sony & Microsoft. I think they'd be foolish to attempt to do so as well. The other manufacturers already have such a huge user base, trying to compete with them would cost them a fortune. They're better off investing their efforts into building their own market & increasing their user base and letting Sony & MS battle it out.

Nintendo has a large user base from yesteryear and they're the people who have bought the Switch now. Switch is proving to be a successful console so far. Comments such as "It's the Wii-U all over again" is a bit lolworthy to me...look at the way this thing is flying off the shelves...it clearly isn't. People actually know what this console is AND it's being marketed properly. EA & Ubisoft are the two biggest brands (I think) who have backed the Switch and to bring games to it. It's also going to be a indie game central. Other third party developers announce their plans for Switch games and/or support & dev work very regularly.

If Ubisoft release an assassins creed or far cry for the switch , and show it's capable of running such game, (obviously would come with a slight graphical downgrade when compared to the PS4/xbone) then I think with Nintendo's 1st party titles this would be the console to own, the potential with it is insane.

How good would it be if they released a goldeneye/perfect dark for this , the local multiplayer would be epic with 4/8 switches , be no cheating and looking at the split screen to see where your mate was like in the n64 days :D

E3 will tell. The way I see it, it's already going the way of the WiiU with regards to 3rd party IMO. Switch is confirmed that won't be getting games like GTA5, Overwatch or Rocket League and I don't see it getting all the latest 3rd party releases this holiday season. Now first party is the one thing that could turn it around, but that's dependent on Nintendo showing the goods at E3 and confirming games like Pokemon and Metroid. But there is just as much chance such games won't be announced.

Third party support not so much of an issue (shame about rocket league), we always knew that was going to be the case. I mean the horsepower difference between the switch and the ps4 pro and scorpio will probably mean that the traditional AAA tiles will never come to the switch. To me, the switch is more of a replacement to the ds so it's the exclusives I'm more interested in.

When was it confirmed about rocket league?

I still don't really care if the Switch gets these 3rd party games, for me personally.

Obviously I would love it for those that only have the Switch and don't play on anything else but for me my pc will always do 3rd party better (bad ports aside), so the Switch is for the games I can't get anywhere else or the smaller indie games that suit this platform really well.

Am on the fence about mine craft, £20 seems a hard pill to swallow as I played it a fair amount on PS4 years back. But it would suit this system really well and I never finished the main sort of task

If you make a south african account I think its about £15 if that helps.
Ive not bought yet as I want to finish up with zelda before moving on.

Just ordered a Switch and Zelda.

Zelda coming by Tuesday, Switch supposedly in July.. but hopefully before that. Stock seems low everywhere. Looking forward to this; last handheld gaming device I had was a Gameboy Advance all those years ago.

Ordered it for my Birthday really which is end of June.

Hope to pick up Mario Kart at some point but will probably wait until I actually get the device before I do so.
