*** Nintendo Switch ***

Yep they're the ones :)

I got mine from Amazon though. Price is the same within a quid or two.

Ok you persuaded me. Ordered. They had a variety of colours but I've just got for the black case and red grips. Watched their YouTube video and really digged the look.

Decided to order splatoon 2 as the reviews seem pretty positive and I like the idea of an shooter game on the switch.

Most seem to say it's fairly similar to the original but having never owned a Wii u it'll be new to me !

So the switch online app seems like the most user unfriendly retarded thing in this history of gaming

https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017...e-issues-with-nintendo-switch-voice-chat-app/

As Nintendo points out in the app's official FAQ, voice chat cannot run in the background while using your phone for other purposes such as "texts, social media, etc.":

"The voice chat will disconnect while you're talking on the phone or using another application, but your voice chat will restart in the same room once you open the Nintendo Switch Online application again as long as the game session is still ongoing."

What's more, early testing confirms that the app won't work if your phone goes into power-saving "sleep mode," with the screen inactive. And don't bother trying to use the app to chat with your Switch friends while away from the system, either: you can only join chat rooms with people when you're actively playing a specific, supported game with them.

This is all in sharp contrast to Sony and Microsoft, which have allowed simple party chat directly on their consoles—across games and at the system level—for years.

Practical impact aside, the design decision is simply baffling when you compare the Switch voice chat app to other phone-based chat solutions. Everything from Skype to Discord to the built-in phone app on your smartphone lets you continue talking to others while doing other things with the phone. For Nintendo to require its app to run in the foreground when other apps prove it's not necessary is just strange.

GameXplain said you can't even pull down the notification tray on your phone while using the app and voice chat. You immediately get cut off.

How did a company the size of Nintendo actually sign off this crap !?

They should just let you plug a wired headset into the Switch.

People then have the choice of using an extension/long cable or using a USB powered 3.5mm to bluetooth adaptor if they are in docked mode.

Indeed. The port itself has microphone capabilities.

A port on the controllers would be good. But I am guessing that the limit of not being able to have Bluetooth headphones comes in here?

I have been tempted to get a Bluetooth 3.5mm adaptor for when on the go. But I am waiting for more experience with the switch first and to see how this ∆ all plays out. With enough feedback they might change it to something that's good.

When you are in portable mode just use a cable.

I bet in a year's time there will be a revision with a mic built in.

I don't really game online much and even if I did it wouldn't be with a Nintendo console. Luckily for me, I've always seen Nintendo consoles better played locally with friends

Man I really wish Nintendo would release pokemon sun / moon and the upcoming sequals on this thing. I'm not buying a 3ds for it..... They missed out on lots of sales.

Get paid next week and undecided between splatoon 2 or Mario kart 8. Want a game that I can enjoy single player and with friends. Which should I get?

Mario Kart 8 would probably be better for you as Splatoon 2 multiplayer is online focused and there's no split screen (multiple consoles are required for local multiplayer). MK8 is quite fun online too.

Splatoon 2 has a more unique and stand-out single player mode, but winning 1st in all of MK8's cups and learning the tracks in single player will keep you busy for a little while too.

Splatoon is better for online multiplayer, mario kart for offline.
