*** Nintendo Switch ***

A change in jobs means I'll be commuting for a couple of hours a day. I was already pondering getting a Switch because Octopath Traveler gives me a massive nostalgia hug for FF Tactics.

Anybody recommend good quality screen protectors and cases? I don't want my new toy getting bashed around. Also, apart from an SD card are there any other peripherals that folks recommended.

The only off-putting thing at the moment is the price of the games - I think Steam and PS Store sales have spoiled me (and I remember Cuthbert Goes Walkabout for £8.95 from Boots!)

Do you folks end up buying secondhand carts or just holding out for deals?

Games I'm looking at the the moment would be Octopath Traveler, Hollow Knight and either Doom or Splatoon 2. Are there any other 'must-haves' or highly recommended games to look at?

Thank you.

Octopath Traveller is more like FFVI, Breath of Fire and your normal old school JPRG's than FF Tactics which was a turn based strategy

people on here will be able to advise on the best cases, but as for games, Mario Rabbids, Mario Oddsey, Zelda and Mario Kart!

If you like turn based strategy then Disgaea 5 Complete iso n the Switch but it has a fairly steep learning curve IMO.

Man, Splatoon 2 has really grabbed me again after a long break. I played some Splatfest this weekend then went back to ranked play. So good. Love Zone Control my favourite mode by far.

I tried Fortnite for a bit after and while I did OK it didn't grab me. I find it all a bit boring?

Not sure why that was a question :)

I forgot there was a splatfest this weekend. Fortnite seems really dull to me too, you run around for ages before coming across someone.

I thought this at 1st it has quite a steep learning curve though, and i think it's worth putting some time into it as it's a really fun shooter , and the running around is just due to where you land everyone seems to go towards the same areas, apart from the couple of odd occasions you'll end up landing with loads of others in a remote area

The problem is that it's competing with Splatoon, which I have sunk over 400 hours into, and it just doesn't compare at all.

400 hours  only games i have had over that many hours on is cs: source and rainbow six: siege

Splatoon is a very different type of game though but can imagine it gets really competitive and good at a high level just like rb6

A friend of mine has been playing it a lot and his justification was (and still is) "well its a free game"

Hes admitted he doesn't actually enjoy it THAT much, its just the appeal of it being free so hes trying to get the most out of it.

I've played just over an hour a day since it came out on average. I'll need to check the number is right when I can access my Switch again but it's around that number.

Nintendo games have always come in at premium price, lot of 3DS games that are great still hold onto their value.
Screen protector I bought the horri screen protector which is what I have on my Vita and PSP.
Case wise i'm currently using the hori case which was £12 from Argos, its light and not bulky but it isn't well padded unlike other cases.
SD card i'd recommend getting at least 64GB or higher, you don't need to buy Nintendo graded SD Card which they add extra £s in.
Other accessories if you get a table and you don't fancy holding the switch for awhile, the Horri portable table stand is a decent buy.

I'm around 390 hours in Mario Kart and 130ish in Splatoon. Splatoon definitely becomes more rewarding the better you get and when playing against better players. I think the Octo expansion has made me a better player because a lot of the challenges are so hard you have to really up your speed and reaction times. Think I'll be giving MK a bit of a break now.

Definitely think the pace of Fortnite is what puts me off. I've given it two good goes and I'm not feeling it. I've always preferred objective based MP games like CTF and control and Splatoon definitely scratches that itch for me.

Splatoon becomes a completely different game once you break out of the lower ranked levels and into the X rank. You have to really tailor your weapon choices and loadouts to the maps currently in rotation or you get spanked back down to S+ quickly.

Peoples, I just got another Switch and upon setting it up I came across the pricing for the online service that is due to start and an option to try it for free? I could not see any option to actually sign up though....can anyone help with this and share any info please?

The online, while not expensive, doesn't really offer me much. I want cloud saving but that's it. NES games, sorry, no interest.

Nintendo need a PS+ or Origin like model option for me to bite. Or a killer app MP game. While Spaltoon is probably awesome and Mario Kart is good (the races I've had were surprisingly good), it's not as fun cheesing a win over an internet randomer that you can't even hear them swear bitterly :D
