Nissan GTR Owners and Lovers Thread

Certainly not the quickest but not too shabby for my 2nd time at Oulton in the GTR. Always funny how a video can make it look like you're driving so slow!

Nice. Just a little jealous.

(Was running around that track on test drive unlimited 2 the other day - it has various real circuits sprinkled about the map without naming them had no idea it was Oulton).

Looked good driving to me :) and nice telemetry overlay.

It's the one thing I wish I did with mine rather than worry about the condition for the next owner, although I did clock a good 200 odd R-Start launches on the road :D

200? Jeesh I've not launched it once! The car hasn't been launched by any of the previous owners either, not that it matters much now with the upgraded gearbox software.

Contemplating a transmission cooler as it annoyed me how I struggled to stay out for even 20 minute stints every hour.

Yep, I went to four car meets and two OcUK RR days with it, most of the launches were during passenger rides :D

Cir-Clips made it pretty safe to launch in my opinion, I think it was harder on the clutch than the gears anyway.

I think it is 4th gear that is weak when you put some hard lateral loads on the car in that gear? So fast corners on track.

Ah yes, I remember those launches but it was the in-gear acceleration that really impressed me, I found the figures from the PowerStation thread and it was

"37-99mph in 2.57 seconds and 37-80 within 1.45 seconds!!!"

measured with a 10hz GPS (same as VBox etc).

Was fortunate enough to spend some time a few weeks ago at an ice driving course and some of the cars there were GT-Rs. You could easily hit 120mph on the straights, which was quite a curious sensation on sheet ice.

Spent two hours on track in the GT-R in the end. It was a very easy car to drive in the conditions. They'd pulled all the fuses so the ABS and stability systems were all disengaged, meaning you could drive them in a fashion that befitted the surface.

Modifications to the car included studded tyres, a sheet steel front undertray which extended into a heavy-duty bumper, reinforced sill skirts and cooling pack protection - so it wouldn't get packed full of snow and cause them to overheat

These things were doing this for a week and a half, or thereabouts, and continually having excursions into snowbacks and being driven flat out in temperatures as low as -25 degrees Celsius. Credit where it is due, they just kept on ticking!

Still one of my all-time favourites, the R35.

Yea, it's an amazing place. It's called Laponie Ice Driving School:

http://www.lapland-ice-driving.com/

It's got nine circuits, including 1:1 replicas of Silverstone and the Nurburgring F1 track. The whole complex only occupies a small portion of the entire frozen lake, to give you some idea of the scale of the place.

It doesn't have a GT-R of its own yet (the owners are seriously considering getting one now, though) - these cars were supplied by Nissan - but there are some ace bits of kit there. A Gallardo, lots of Caymans, Subarus, Evos and so on.

They also had a 911 GT3 which appeared to spend most of its time in snowbanks and a C6 Corvette with big spotlights that looked about as far out of its natural environment as was possible :D

wonderful thread -

I have always been a fan of Skyline - Years ago the BBC used to broadcast the Australian saloon car championships on Saturday afternoon and Skyline was king. - Anyone remember the Bathurst 500 before it changed it's name.

More pictures would be good.:D

Oh these cars are lovely.
That Ice Driving school looks amazing, already told the missus about this ;).
Love the GTR's definitely one of my favourite and one of the best looking cars about.

I really want to do this, looks great fun.

That Ice driving place with full replica circuits looks amazing and those are some great action shots!

I really enjoyed your party trick JP :D

The thing is now I have my beginner GTR I really want the fully fledged version :o

Hah yeah good times :D I think I remember you were talking about the crossrail project and then I launched it, went around some corners and demonstrated the brakes and you forgot what you were saying  :p

A GTR is more practical than a 350Z so it wouldn't be a silly thing to do

The R34 GTR is my all time hero car...One day I shall own it! That midnight purple one on Autotrader has me dreaming...

Thanks, yes its standard ride height, I might have to lower it a tiny bit, just dont want to ruin the ride/ handling.

Its clean because its only done 32k miles. Engine has had plenty done, 502bhp.
