Nissan GTR Owners and Lovers Thread

have you noticed any change to the way the car handles?

Day to day use I won't notice any difference, on track I'll have to see. If I notice a significant difference I can just swap it over for track days, only takes 20-30minutes, less if I don't bother plugging the brake light cable back in.

I do like that. Would prefer it painted though I think.

I think I'm going to get the car wrapped in a few months so I'll be able to choose whether to keep it carbon or wrapped. I think it matches up well with the rear diffuser and I've got a few other carbon bits to go on.

+1

Noticed any difference in the tail at speed?
EDIT: Thanks for the input JP

I really like the look of it. Carbon bonnet to match would top it off nicely :p

One of my main reasons for getting a carbon boot was because when the car gets wrapped I don't want shut lines visible when opening the boot/bonnet, picky I know but I'm picky. I might get a carbon bonnet too to stop this but I'm not sold on carbon bonnets yet, definitely don't like the OTT vented ones so it would be something near OEM just in carbon.

Looks great and the fit looks factory, I like exterior carbon bits, just not a fan of interiors covered in the stuff!

I prefer gloss carbon on the exterior and matte on the interior, but having said that I just had a couple of parts carbon dipped and they look great on the inside of the car. They were given a slightly darker clearcoat which I think makes a good amount of difference. I also think matte carbon in person doesn't look right, it just looks like a cheap vinyl wrap trying to be carbon.

Have you got the R8 yet JP? I don't really go in the Audi thread :p

I love GTR's but fancy this an American lardy ass no handling boat with less power beating the GTR????

Must be a lie as we all know American cars can't do corners right? ;)

Hah that video Gibbo, so much talk on gtr forums about it, without taking anything away from the American muscle, I think the tyres made the difference?

I couldn't live with that Camaro interior. I know the GTR isn't up on a pedestal for its interior quality but the Camaro looks just like the one I had in FL for 3 weeks…and that was just full of crappy plastic.

Well the GTR comes on track rubber as standard, this track edition no doubt comes on the same tyres as other GTR's or maybe something stickier?

All I will say is I know from people who have used the Trofeo is they are supposed to be excellent and one of the sticker semi-R's available. :)

So even though both cars are on semi-R's I would say the Trofeo gave the advantage but then you could argue that the GTR has more power on its side and a super quick transmission which then makes the Camaro's time all the more impressive.

I've never being one for the drive of the Camaro simply as visibility is poor, but can't knock them for putting together what looks like a truly epic drivers car.

It does bode very well for the Vette edition though, one can imagine it will be 200kg lighter or there abouts with more power, that will be very quick. :)

Just to confirm, the GTR stock rubber is "Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT 600 DSST CTT"
That is on all the newer cars since MY11 including the track packs. (I think, earlier cars had the Bridgestones)

As far as I know that is not an R-Compound like the "Pirelli PZero Trofeo R" on the Camaro?

Anyway, it is still mighty impressive for a Camaro, just like that Dodge Viper ACR that also goes well round corners :D

i like the guy in the videos beard :)

isnt that camaro the one that rotated the tyres on the wheels due to the stopping power of the brakes or something mental like that?

If its not semi-R rated its bloody close as I remember when my mate got his GTR and commenting on how soft the tyres were, can't remember if his had the Bridgestones or Dunlops but the tyres were made specifically for the GTR, were very soft and lasted about 4000 miles on the rear. :D

The Trofeo will be stickier but not by much as the standard fitment GTR tyre is very sticky and I'd be surprised if they were not classed as semi-R.

I know it is mere semantics but that is pretty much the whole argument in the thread talking about the video on the GTR forum.

I am a GTR fan (obviously) but I know it isn't the best car in the world (anymore :p;)) and everything has caught up since the 08/09 release when it really dominated but the GTR hasn't progressed that much over the years and is now getting surpassed by almost everything new in its class.

And who wants to spend 130 odd grand for the Nismo which really should have been the new revised MY15 standard GTR.

Looking forward to see what they do with the R36!

To be honest though that is how it goes. Nissan always release a GTR and blow everything away, then 3-5yrs later everyone catches up and some beat it.

Problem is for me manufacturers like Porsche have literally copied the GTR and Porsches are no longer the precision driving tools they once were, electric steering, PDK as default, differentials, they chased laptimes to compete with the GTR and became less Porsche doing so. Don't get me wrong they are still truly sensational drives, they could never be as dull as an Audi, R8 excluded. ;)

I love driving my 911 because it is fun and challenging at all speeds, it might not be the quickest car on the road but I enjoy every second of driving it and that is what made Porsche so good on the 993, 996 and 997 era. The new Porsches are hugely quick but numbers are not everything if they were we'd all own GTR's. ;)

If I was buying a new Porsche now for driving involvement it would either be a completely standard Cayman or I'd go Cayman GTS. Good value and a great drive! Or I'd be smart and buy a 997.2 GTS or 997 GT3.

I have high hopes for the new Mustang I am hoping its an epic handling car and that the engine is the focal point of the whole car and everything else is just a bonus. Can't wait to drive one! :)

Otherwise I stick with 911 or buy something different and silly. :D

Yep, exactly right.

And the new Mustang looks great, definitely on my list to look at for a 2nd Florida car rather than a rental when we need it.

Sorry, but what cars exactly are better than the gtr now in its price range? For example, it's faster and just as good handling as a 911 / F type / r8.... so unsure what people think is better?

Never seen that video before, and I enjoyed watching it, even tho I wanted the GTR to win and it didn't :( That Z/28 was a monster tho, and looked like a proper stripped out track package jobby. Only 1 speaker for the audio 'bing' when you've left the lights on etc etc, that's a bit excessive I'd say, especially seeing as the GTR still has a full stereo etc.
I've subscribed to that guys channel tho, as I really enjoyed his presentation style, even if he couldn't say Nissan, lol. I'll look forward to watching some more of his videos :)
