Nissan to close plant sparking anger!

Pandemic has changed everything tbh... No one really cares about brexit much at the moment, the press are more focused on that devious muppet Boris still hasn't sacked. That might change in future but tbh... everyone's economy is getting shafted here so the impact of a no deal exit isn't really as much of a worry anymore. I mean Germany should be on track to recover rather well, Spain and Italy though have some major potential problems and there are plenty of potential fights over how to fund the recovery etc...

We were told the UK plants would shut, I don't get how they got it so wrong!
Has anyone said it's not going to then? Considering they've just announced a 20% reduction in global production capacity, shutdown two plants, and made a net loss of 671bn Yen do you really think it's not going to seek to reduce cost even more next financial year. Because some people disagree.
Nissan Motor Co. unveiled a revamped production line in the English town of Sunderland on Thursday. Yet the fanfare around the updated Juke crossover model may prove to be no more than a stay of execution for a factory whose future will be on the line in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

The introduction of the face-lifted auto at Britain’s biggest car plant will be accompanied by the loss of one of five daily work shifts as staff transfer between the site’s two assembly lines, a move that may be a precursor of further cuts to come.

In europe at least the plant is the most efficient and where the battery tech is built.

They have just extended the plant, that one finished last year, built extra warehouses slightly away from site also to stock pile parts. There is a new tech park being built opposite which looks like it's going to revolve around the car manufacturing industry. Major investment into the A19 also and other road links to/from the plant so they have easier access to the closest port (that is on going now)

They/gov really do seem to have been spending the money lately.

Yes, but apart from that...

Ok I thought we were all lazy!

I see we are still requiring a lot of land workers ;)

You guys are so funny, one minute it's we're the hardest working best nation on the planet, then it's you want me to do hard graft on the land? **** that, then it's look at all those lazy ******** loving this lock down, with furlough they are just treating it as a paid summer holiday and don't want to go back to work :p

Schrodingers Worker! - we are both the hardest working and laziest ******** at the same time (A bit like that Schrodingers immigrant who was taking all the jobs and claiming all the benefits at the same time ;) )

The anti-Brexit scaremongering was called Project Fear for a reason, like much of what the anti-Brexiters/anti-Trumpers believe it had no basis in reality just corporate media feeding them fear porn to keep them scared and docile and wanting nothing at all to change ever.

Nissan's decision to centre European production at its UK plant in Sunderland and close its Barcelona factory has sparked angry protests by workers in Spain.
why are the spanish workers making angro protests because nissan shut a plant in sunderland? I would expect them to only be protesting at the loss of their own plant

sunderland voted for brexit anyway knowing nissan wouldnt stay... idiots

the plant workers were often on the newcastle news saying they would vote for brexit lol

As opposed to a certain bus slogan dreamt up by a certain individual who tests his eyes by packing his family into his car for a drive around the countryside? ;)

I thought the word could was anathema to you at one point? I'd rather make judgement come January, at least it would be less of a minefield of figuring out the PR.

Im a bit late to this discussion, but there was a promise from Theresa May to cover the losses from brexit with government funding to protect the UK manufacturing. This was when Carlos Ghosn was still about and talking directly with the PM.

I suppose the big question about such a strategy is, how much more are we losing by keeping the factory and jobs here.

sorry if i missed the point with this!
