No cold callers

Boxing glove on a giant spring connected to the door bell ??

No hawkers No Traders : Thats the best sign EVER.

Have a suitcase ready by the door, then next time when they call open the door and pretend they are the householder. If you can sell them something from your case then all the better. Fill the suitcase with rubbish stuff like empty coke cans and rat bedding.

Your opening line can be “sorry to bovver you guv, ive just been released from prison and am darn on me luck, any chance you would buy some of this **** off of me ?”

Shift nervously from one foot to another and keep looking over your shoulder. Then say “oh sorry I can see that your busy guv” and slam the door in their face

A few doors down one of my neighbours has a sign which reads something along the lines of:

"If you knock on my door or post leaflets about your company I guarantee that I will never buy your products or use your services."

I don't know if it works.

No it wasn't.
I think if I had a sign up saying no soliciting I'd get much stranger looks.

If you say so. On the same note maybe the postman would have delivered your package.

And yes I typoed as I meant to say few instead of new, apologies.

Accepted :)

Most people, at least around here, would understand soliciting as touting for business.

Europe

In England and Wales, the term soliciting refers to: "for a common prostitute to loiter or solicit in a street or public place for the purpose of prostitution", under the Street Offences Act 1959.[1] The crime of soliciting should not be confused with the profession of a solicitor, which under UK law is typically that of a lawyer, who may also function as a legal agent to obtain the services of a barrister on behalf of a client.

The description of Kerb crawler makes clear that also: 'the addressing or accosting by a potential prostitution customer of a supposed prostitute with the purpose to conclude to a prostitution agreement with her' is entitled 'solicitation' by some.

Door to door salesmen are a real pain. I need to find a better way to get rid of them. The mass grave at the foot of my garden is staring to really fill up.

I don't want to discourage the local prostitutes though :(

I just want rid of canvassers, salesmen and charity workers :D

i can see up my drive so i can see who comes down it so it allows me to chose whether i answer or not but..... you are well within your right to put up a sign if your sick of them, i would do the same.

Like you said cold calling is typically conducted over the phone so maybe it's best to use the commonly used term i.e soliciting.
A term quite commonly used with respect to prostitution :o

The context in the OP was correct and unambiguous.

Nope but soliciting is the word generally used in this area!

As is cold calling a generally used and wholly acceptable term for unsolicited door to door sales.

I find it difficult to understand your need to not see the terms as interchangeable when the only difference is the mechanism of the solicitation in question.

Oh, just stick a big image of pedobear on the sign with the quote “free sweets, inquire within“.

Now, THAT will get you some funny looks..... maybe a few bricks and broken windows too mind.

Indeed, I'd be thinking that "enquire" would be more appropriate in the sentence.

You should have an instructional graphic based sign instead.

A simple stickman with a RM bag posting a letter in a box with a tick.

Annoying rabble with pitchforks, circulars and questionnaires with a big cross.

I'm sure someone on here would knock you up an inventive sign if you're up for it!

I want this.

Delivery men and friends are welcome, everyone else can jog!
