No cold callers

They do my head in, especially power companies. Pushy ***** and if I enquire about u it price they think i will signup on the door. Despite telling them all I wnatto know is unit price and I never sign unto anything. Perhaps I should just learn and slam the door in there face rather than responding.

There is no law that says if your doorbell rings, you must answer it.
Unless you are expecting something/someone, ignore it and waste their time.
When was the last time a stranger called to give you something for free.

Got a couple of friends who will turn up without notice.
Also postman and other such things. Police enquiring about something and next door neighbours.
I inform them when we are having a BBQ/party as they have kids and have washing out on the line 24/7, they now do the same. Even though I don't care.

Perhaps a sign reading...

"Please don't bother trying to sell anything here, these properties are being demolished to put in another bypass"

..would put off the cold callers, it may even scare your neighbours! :)

I also work from home and used to get on average about 2 knocks on the door a day. I always just say "not interested" and slam the door in their face when I see it's not a delivery guy. It was still really annoying though as I spend half my days on conference calls and have to make excuses to run to the door to be greater by some idiot I don't care about.

Now I have a "NO Cold Callers!" sign and now I only get about one every 2 weeks. They now don't even get spoken to. I point at the sign, given em a dirty look and slam the door in their face.

If they are rude enough to not respect my wishes, I'll be rude back.

I live in a cul de sac and it seems to be a good target for cold callers. They can set down and hit a lot of houses in a short space of time without having to drive about.

I find the quickest way to get rid of any sales types is to let them know you are not the person they need to deal with. If it's home improvements, tell them you rent. Company car, company phone etc. I find they can't leave quick enough. If it's utilities or charity I just say under no circumstances will I hand out personal information over the door but they're welcome to leave a card and I will check them out online. Haven't had anyone try to push it any further than that.

I have a small sign which reads:

ATTENTION
IF YOU ARE SELLING
RESEARCHING, ENQUIRING
OR TRYING TO CONVERT
PLEASE DO NOT CALL HERE
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

That seems to do the trick for us :D

Just put up a scarecrow in a business suit in front of your door with one of those 'Hi i'm..a salesman' stickers. Works with crows :p

I got a sticker from Trading Standards to put in the window, it helped a little and I've seen some read it and walk away without knocking. Of course some cold callers don't care and ignore it, others only read after they've knock, but at least a few have the decency to be embarrassed.

bloody nuisance :(
my local council has a no cold call zone where we live, but we still get cold callers  even though i know one of my neighbours reports them all,

We don't get that many really but any we do get as soon as they say "Hi, sorry to disturb you and I'm not trying to sell you anything but just want your opinion on whether you'd buy..." I just stop them there and say quite assertively that I'm not interested in the slightest now please leave.

A friend of mine works from home. For the same reasons he made a lovely sign reading :

We do not need:
Double glazing
A new utilities supplier
Satellite television
The word of God

Do not embarrass yourself by knocking to have the door closed in your face.

It works nicely :)
