No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

I'm interested in the exploring aspect of the game and was wondering if anyone could please tell me how many hours gameplay they reckon it would be before they've seen all the unique looking landscapes and creatures?

Cheers,
Lots to explore, so it's a good game if you like sight seeing.

Between playing on my PS4 and PC, I've got about 130 hours so far and just discovered a landscape I've never seen before the other day.
The variation between worlds can sometimes be subtle, then out of nowhere you come across something completely new and nothing like anything you've previously come across.

Never is a good guess as your lifetime isn't enough.
bought game now with the beyond update as it simply wasn't ready content and gamewise before.
its really good now while still a bit buggy but they keep patching it

Is this actually worth a look now? It's £17 on CDkeys.

I bought the game on release on PS4 and thought it was a complete turd, has it really changed that much? IE, is it enough to take another look/rebuy?

I would say yes but YMMV. For me the game is never going to be a "lifer" (as in one i play for years and years like Elite Dangerous) but i think it is a nice game and one i will dip in and out of continually. Well worth the sale price imo but it is an acquired taste.

NOTE I do play in VR however which for me adds a huge amount to the experience, I would not have bought without that.

Depends what kind of difference you're expecting between worlds. To me is small enough to say that once you've visited a few planets and systems you've kinda seen them all.

Be careful if you want to build a base. Right now using the teleporter you'll be locked out from building something, the gaming falsely seeing you as a visitor and not the owner. So you can say adios to things like base, freighters, goods in them, etc.

Oh, and for some reason you can't change/bind the keys and joystick is not supported outside of VR.

Other than that, it can be fun if you're interested in space stuff. 10 year old me likes it, while older me waits for the day Star Citizen will come out. :)

Thanks for your opinions suenstar and RBImGuy, went ahead and bought it.
If I get 20+ hours of play time out of it I'll be happy.

Cheers

The main quest lines should be around 100 hours...
its a bit buggy with a few things but they keep patching and it has improved massively in the last week since beyond launch.

I learned to set up a mineral farm today, mainly explore looking for that good lush planet.
did the main questline, artemis but haven't done the galaxy core one as I like to fly into the unknown.
their Launch 2016, I tried it then but it wasnt ready, now it feels like a solid good game.
and the addition with multiplayer means you can join other missions and gain friends etc..
The Vulkan renderer made it a lot better as I tried before beyond patch was out.

yea I give it a strong 3.5 out of 5 atm.

And you'll be 10 years older by the time that happens :p

We'll see how much time will come to pass, but since there's nothing similar out there to compare...

NMS is 3 years old now since launch and still has major issues and kinda lacks in unique content. Maybe in 10 years they'll have something better as well. :)

Great to see they are doing so well with the patches. I had 2 bugs which were annoying me and they both got sorted today. Granted it could have not been so buggy on release but that seems to be the norm for any game nowadays, so I'll at least give them credit for working hard to put it right.

I might hold off playing it a bit until a few more patches.
Was watching some streams and saw the old favourite of glitching through the map which is just mildly annoying but I also saw someone find an NPC on a planet who asked him to repair his wrecked ship, which he did and the NPC flew off.
Later he got a quest which turned out to be helping this same NPC which he'd already done so broke the quest and made it uncompletable.
That would really bug the crap out of me.

To anyone who has played this game to the end - Have they made any changes to its "conclusion"? I'm tempted to give it another go, but I felt so aggrieved after the first play through that I swore I wouldn't.

BF2 from dice still have bugs 14 years later.
It's difficult with games to have it all, fixed in the game, ever.
Lot of patches, soon they also add the fix for credits vanishing when you buy a ship :)

Already been patched. One of those 2 bugs I mentioned was exactly that. And it's kind of obvious they are never going to get all the bugs.. I didn't suggest that they did! Games are generally released with a lot more bugs nowadays is my point. Yes there will be/was always bugs in games, but it was never as prevalent and accepted (by studios not us) as it is now. More and more games tend to just release anyway and fix them in patches.

Patch 2.09 fixed it, if you're interested https://www.nomanssky.com/2019/08/beyond-patch-2-09/

Fixed an issue where players were charged too much when trading in their existing ship or Multi-Tool.

To those that play it in VR - Can you not sprint? or rocket dash?
Getting from A to B was tedious, I didn't use the teleport movement option as that's just so immersion breaking, so it was a bit of a grind just getting around planets on foot.
Xbox controller don't work in VR, shame as I assume the inability to rocket dash is due to the VR controllers.

Anyway, was my first dip in VR, maybe I should have tried something a little more basic first, but the Rift S comes with no games....so jumped into NMS.

Performance was nothing less than amazing, ran perfectly with a 1080ti. I spent more time than I care to admit just shooting asteroids in space.
Unfortunately the Rift S was abit dodgy so it went back the next day.
Oh and how do you use the analyze visor in VR? Never did figure that one out.

Tap the left side of your head.
It's pretty cool.

Ah, kinda obvious I guess, whilst at the same time would have totally screwed me over.
I had to send my Rift S back as the tracking would fail if the controllers went too close to the head.
They would stick, and the system wouldn't recognize that you have actually lowered your arms.
