No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

They have never said it was a multiplayer game in the sense of being able to play with others. In fact they've said pretty much the opposite. It's not multiplayer, you can't meet others in game, get over it.

I don't care about multiplayer I play games to get away from people but he stated multiple times in interviews that you 100% can run into other people although the chances would be rare due to the size of the game. I imagine a lot of people have preordered thinking they could meet others eventually as it was confirmed 10-15times. I don't think they counted on players being in the same place on the day after release..

So far it just looks like the dev team became so obsessed with this idea of "procedurally generated massive world" that they forgot to make the actual game part... Don't get me wrong; exploring and just existing in such a large world with lots to discover does have some merit (for a while), but I expect a good few billion of those "quadrillion" planets or systems or whatever aren't as unique as they're being made out - in the same way that "oh, the players are unlikely to find the same location, so it's fine to imply that the game is multiplayer" you have "oh, the players are unlikely to see the duplicated / basic pallette-swapped / very similar planets / features, so it's fine to talk up the big numbers"... Perhaps a mistake to underestimate how many people are going to be streaming and seeing other's games and screenshots etc. - if their engine isn't as revolutionary as they seem to think it is people are going to realise it quite quickly

That being said, I'm still interested to see the game for myself - I hope it proves the skeptics wrong

Think I might have to watch some Twitch streams tonight....something ive tried to avoid to not spoil the experience, but after reading the user reviews and reddit....I may have to cancel my PC pre-order....which is a shame....as the general noise is not a good one, especially for a £40 game.

it was a great story headline to begin with 'small indie dev promises game bigger in scope than most AAA titles' sadly it hasn't turned out as people wanted and not surprisingly to be honest. I know it's not their fault that people got so hyped for it but they didn't help themselves with promised features not in the initial release and being rather vague about game play.

I'd hold out and play for an hour or so. You won't know until you try it and reviews / reddit are full of trolls. Yes there are genuine concerns in there, but this game was never meant to be for everyone.

I thought the point of the game was that you'd never meet any other players, but you may see their imprints on worlds you visit.

For me this looks like a perfect chill out game. Spend 30 mins in it whenever you have time and explore the universe slowly. Kind of like a better version of the X games, with less of the trading and the shooting aspects.
Does it support VR?

I've mentioned this once before but the progression element is very similar to a mobile game called Out There. If anyone is unsure whether to splash out £40 on it, try that game and then imagine it in a massive 3d universe.
I'm happy to spend that money on an indie game that's obviously been a labour of love for the developers. It's not going to appeal to everyone but it's a great game and concept. Can't see me playing it for the next 453 billion years to see every planet because the procedural generation element is very apparent, amongst other reasons, can't see how anyone expected it not to be :-)

now that you mention it it is a lot like out there! never made the connection. Hopefully it's a bit more forgiving than Out there... so many ways for your adventure to end :/

Caved and bought PS4. If it's good and the PC port is better quality then I can trade it for £40 steam credit currently and that will get me the PC version.

For those who haven't seen it yet.

PC launch will basically confirm whether or not the functionality is actually there the moment it goes up.

Played for half an hour on PS4....my little 42" LCD at 10ft+ distance is a little hard, text is small.

Now do I get it on PC to play up close on my 30" U3014 high gamut which will really make the colours pop (and have higher FoV, which is a bit pap on PS4)....or buy that 55" OLED TV I've had my eye on....hmm

The players were probably on different servers/lobbies, it's not as if they'll have a single server with all players connecting to that one server...

But of course reddit loves a drama :p:rolleyes:

I've never got how people can be so absorbed by procedurally generated content in games - once I've seen it once I can pretty quickly grasp the rules and limitations used for the generation and pretty much imagine any other combination of it without experiencing it.
