No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

I can only imagine how Sean Murray is feeling right now, so much hate for the game :( and all within a few hrs of the PC release. Its games like this and Star Citizen that I have been waiting on since the ZX Spectrum days, if it means paying over the odds at times to push development i'm all for it.

At least give them a bloody chance to patch the thing before completely slating it. I think there are two type's complaining about the game:

1st -- People that expected this to run as smooth as butter on day one. I can understand people getting annoyed at crashes and so on but anyone that researched the game must have know that with a very small team there was bound to be issues on day 1.

2nd -- People that didn't research or had false expectations about what the game was about. So far the game is playing exactly as I expected it to, I do not understand how people have got this so wrong???

Sure, it could do with some work and at times the graphics leave a lot to be desired but people slating this type of game have to think about the leap it has made.

I seem to be one of the few that are getting crashes after the hello games logo.

I am below min spec so I guess I can't complain. I just assumed it would run badly instead of not at all..

Q6600
Radeon hd5870 (which says open gl 6.xxx)

Not too sure which part of my system is the issue. Probably all of it..

I guess it's time for a new computer..

The Q6600 would REALLY struggle, it is well below the minimum requirement.

The 5870 is not supported at all - it does not support OpenGL 4.5, only 4.4, so the game will not run. You *NEED* an Nvidia 400 series or AMD 7000 series or above for it to work at all.

Running nice and well for me. Only a few graphical glitches and one annoying problem - i can't scan any creatures that fly.

Every video and presentation I have seen of this game, it seemed to me like Skyrim or Witcher 3 except without any of the dialogue, quests, characters or interesting things to do.

Seems like that impression was right. Flying to different planets is a great gimmick though, especially when supported by such fantastic soundtrack. So I am glad at least for 65dos's work here.

I find this whole situation utterly hilarious tbh (the whole NMS/sean murray antics etc). :D :p I love these trainwreck threads...it all begins with so much hope ohh lolcakes :D I find myself thinking of pavlovs dogs though. But thats not very constructive so happy gaming in NMS :D

TBH I've now had 3 hours on it, met 2 alien races and traveled to 2 different galaxies. If all he wants to do is jump around and break his legs so be it.

haha excellent point ! I think a lot of people might just end up spending their first few hours doing just this though, not full understanding the potential scope.

I kinda feel bad for Hello Games - simply because they seem to really care about their title, but with the size of their dev team I don't see how they had any hope... And no doubt working to an exclusive PS4 release ahead of anything else - I bet Sony were in there flogging them to death to get it out on time, as a result the PC version is a mess.

I'm to busy still enjoying, Overwatch. Even though I want to check this game out ASAP I decided to let it release first and see how things go.

Seems I made the right choice.

Just shy of 2 hours gameplay now, running 3440x1400.

Still utterly dismayed by the graphics at this resolution. Glad they included 21:9 out of the box, but it seriously just looks like a 1080p image, and not a good one at that. I've not really had any stutters, apart from the opening loading screen, so I guess I've been lucky there, the pop in however is a really short distance.

Textures, even on things like the ship are just woeful. I know it's supposed to have an art style but come one, games like The Witness, Firewatch, borderlands etc have done this far better.

What is this, 1980's coin-op graphics?!

Moaning to one side, the game play is as I expected, and I don't think it's missing out not having any/real multiplayer. I do find it frustrating that you can't just hover on a planet but it's not the end of the world I guess. I feel a bit like I'm too dependent on resources to keep my ship in the air/suit/tool fueled but perhaps that extends a bit with upgrades later on.

I was really on the fence about getting a refund of not after my first play earlier, the graphics really are sub par at 2k, and as much as some other things might get patched in the game it's just not worth £40 to me looking like this (all those promo shots on steam are nothing like the low res graphics in the game)

If they turn it around then I'll most likely purchase it again but it's ruining my enjoyment as it is now.
