No Man's Sky

Nothing gamers love more these days than spending hours poring over youtube videos desperately trying to find things to be offended about. Sad. Especially when most of the videos (cba going through them all) seem to reflect exactly what, erm, is in the game.

Sorry kids but you are really stretching things with this one. NMS is at it's core exactly the game they said it would be. A few minor things here and there or differing interpretations aside, they've delivered. Shoddy/rushed PC version notwithstanding.

Another 3 hrs last night, really enjoyable tbh...made if off my first planet and into the space station. Another ship docked as I did!!!! I saved it at that point as it was getting late.

You will see these NPC ships a lot at stations. You can walk up to them when docked and trade and offer to buy their ship off them - not really worth it early on unless you are somehow minted.

I've got my suit up to 28 slots and a 22 slot ship. I'm on a moon where the little balls are everywhere so I am going to stay here for a while and farm as many as I can. Sentinels are crazy but there are plenty of caves around so not so bad.

I wasn't really clued up on what this game was before release so my expectations weren't high and I wasn't hyped for it at all. Only feedback from this forum convinced me to get it and I'm glad I did because it's a really cool game.

Pretty cool, sentinel capital ship warping in, need to get more into ship combat, this guy's pretty good!

I suck at ship combat, I had a run in with 3 pirates and barely escaped with my ship intact never mind taking on sentinel ships

Hmmmm I'm hoping it comes to Xbox, but two of my mates have played it and agree it should in fact be called: No ManZzzzzzzzzzz

I was pretty hyped for it, but reviews have been pretty Meh so far

I think it depends entirely on you, NMS seems to splitting opinion. If you like the idea of a survival exploration game where the story is the exploration rather than a strict narrative of corridor style games. Where the story is defined by what you find (for example, I am currently enjoying learning the history of the Gek) and where you go.

I have seen some people shot down for comparing NMS to Minecraft and to some degree I agree it isn't anything like it. However for an example of a game that gives a similar feel I don't think it is far off. The specifics nothing alike but the mechanics are vaguely similar. i.e. the aim to defeat the ender dragon or to get the centre of the universe, that journey taking as long or short as you decide based on how much you meander, collecting resources to build things that help you find more resources or mine quicker with the resources allowing you to travel further and faster etc.

The way I see NMS is that it speaks to a section of gamers very deeply and while its relatively mechanically shallow, its the uncluttered ability to explore and discover (relative?/promise of?) uniqueness and how you traverse that, that is all they are after.

Its very childlike in that it knows what it wants to do and largely its just focused on it. It seems to succeed there where other space sims feel compelled to round off their visions mechanically...

Its definitely a curio and the differing extreme responses weve seen seem linked to the fact it deals with a concept humanity has a difficultly contemplating. I havent bought the game but I feel like Ive already spent a lot of my younger life doing so if you know what I mean...

ps3ud0
