No Man's Sky

Bought another PS4 to play this, after selling my original one in Feb.

Such a great game, enjoying it so far although not played much.

The UI seems such a rip of from Destiny, but at least it looks familiar :p

I did the same, my launch PS4 blew up about a year ago, so have been waiting for a half decent Exclusive to catch my eye, was going to wait for GT Sport and The Last Guardian however NMS looked interesting to brought the bundle.

I Brought the White No Man's Sky bundle from Tesco, so the game was effectively free.

4hrs on it last night, I'm enjoying it...however had I paid £49 for it I'd be wanting a refund...imho it is not worth full price.
But yeah as a FREE game it's fun enough, not sure how long it'll stay in the disc slot though.

Only thing that really annoys me is the damn space pirates. Going along minding my own business with my precious cargo and a team of 6 appear!!

I just stop and wait to be destroyed...I have no chance. Couldn't hit a barn door.

On a related note, are one of the inventories 'safe' when you die? I thought I'd read somewhere that your ship inventory was safe but you lost everything in suit inventory. Then I died and discovered I still had all the naff stuff that I'd put in my suit and lost all the valuables in my ship, including an atlas stone. Luckily recovered it from my grave site.

I managed to kill a couple of pirates the other day. You just have to remember to keep filling your shield up (which isn't easy). The photon cannon takes them out really quickly, if you can manage to get them in your crosshair (also, not easy!).

I just use the beam laser usually, can dispatch 2-3 pretty easily, trick is to start hitting them as soon as they spawn in, don't give them too many runs at you.

Tried taking on the larger ships, but you really need to get your shields uprated a fair bit. Quite profitable shooting stuff though.

I've not payed any attention to this game and just watched some of the videos, if the planets are procedurally generated at random then how come two people were able to go to the same planet which looked almost identical? surely they must just be using some fixed algorithm?

I bet there are lawsuits on the back of the way this game was marketed. I'm kind of interested to play it but I'll wait for the price to drop.

There was an interesting Reddit thread full of direct quotes about what was promised and features etc that never happened.

I think the idea is the planets "were" procedurally generated. I.e. They created the NMS universe on a server before the game was released with a procedural algorithm so it "was" procedurally generated at the time each planet was created.

Otherwise yeah... they have a specific mechanic that you can visit a planet someone else had discovered. How would that be possible if everyone was living in their own procedurally generated universe? I.e. This was intended by them and the universe is SO big that it doesn't really matter when the universe was created to the player.

They need an easier way to fill up your shield tbh.

After having just 2-3 attack me previously I suddenly had 9 on me yesterday! That was tough going. I only use the laser beam, you can get the most hits with it, even when they aren't in view.

I see. They still seem to have told a lot of lies though, it almost looks like they were way too ambitious and have just cut loads out of the game to rush it out.

I had to start the game several times before the first save point due to a two monitors issue. The planet was different every time. It had the same general parameter settings, ie. lush world, low sentinel aggression, but the details were always different.

I think the idea is, each "new" player starts off on a random planet in the already procedurally pre-made universe. So each time you started again you would have been a "new" player starting on a different planet to the last one by default. That's one of the many other points of the game.

Not saying it doesn't have problems... just that this isn't an example of something they promised but didn't deliver.
