its between the two. it doesnt fit on the 1156 setting, i can get 2 of the legs in but they are pulling against each other and this causes the opposite legs to not go through the mounting holes at all, maybe its just me but i couldnt get it to work on the 1156

Are you sure you're trying it the right way round? I don't think it's square

this is very strange. on the sections of the bracket where the legs are, it has notches in them to allow you to slide the legs into the config you want and lock them inplace. some i think 3/4 of the "arms" have an extra notch that allows it to fit a 1155 setup. anyway

its sitting right now so im on to the thermal paste

i installed it like this as ive read a few reviews where people were acheving better cooling by have the heat pipes level instead of on above the other. if it doesnt work i can always rotate it

Looks good so far - yeah worth a try, mine is like that as I got it second hand and the guy I got it from [ChrisGTL on here] said he'd tried it both ways and got better temperatures that way - makes sense as 'heat rises' anyway

the motherboard has a 4 pin cpu fan but the connection for my fan is 3 pin.... would it be unwise to connect it to a system fan connectionwhich is 3 pin?

Connect it to the CPU FAN header, doesn't matter that its only 3 pins

ok i had to turn the heatsink around which meant removing it, i had to do this has the fan would have been on the wrong side otherwise (it would be blowing to the bottom of the case and no up and out) this did give me a chance to look at how the tim had spread. it was very well spread but i forgot to take a pic

HAHAHAHAHA!!! ITS ALIVE ITS ALIVE!!! i had to trip the motherboard into starting up by putting a screwdriver across the +pwr- connection at the bottom of the motherboard. it started up and displayed the bios!!! it also said no keyboard attached haha
