North Korea threatens US with a pre-emptive nuclear strike.

Squadron of B-1Bs and 2 E6Bs now on route to Guam. Not hit the mainstream news yet.

They will be dropping this leaflet:

Really? Then lets completely freak out Pyongyang and pull all the diplomats from all the western countries. Tell them to look shocked, scared and in a massive hurry, make it look like they can't get out there quick enough and in a dramaic fashion with helicopters and planes wisking them away as if they're trying to put as much distance as possible between them and Pyongyang in the shortest time possible.

That should worry them :D
I like it! :D

Sounds like he's the sensible one and trying to prevent conflict, but is surrounded by warmongers.

Or....with the recent escalation of threats, hes worried about possible actions from the outside as well.

We really havent a clue whats going on in there.

I dont get the whole aggressive military thing really. They know what side their bread is buttered. They know better than Kim that they cant win any war. Their lives and those of their family are extremely privileged. I just dont buy the idea that they want to throw that away for some unspecified reason.

They won't, probably, but the US and SK can't afford to trust they are bluffing.

Kim could fly out the country, hit the nuke button, watch millions die and not care.

Something has to be going on internally. Kim Jong un has apparently stepped up his security detail.

Now that IS interesting...

The article paints Kim Jong Un as a reformer, who wants to modernise the economy and improve living conditions for ordinary citizens. On the face of it this seems quite plausible - the guy was educated in Switzerland after all.

To implement his reforms he would need to take money away from the military, and so they are understandably resisting the change. The implication is that the top generals are artificially creating conflict and tension with the South and the US in order to maintain their relevance.

As a young and inexperienced leader, could Kim Jong Un he be losing the internal power struggle with his top generals? I wish there were more information on this, but North Korea is about as closed off as it gets!

Well, the reason is not entirely unspecified. If Kim implements his (admittedly hypothetical) reforms, that will take resources away from the military, and the top generals will start to lose their influence.

I think they will have to. especially as theres no evidence of any kind of military buildup or anything at all.

why would he do that though? surely there needs to be some kind of motive? to do so goes against everything we have ever seen from that family.

Im still not sure i buy it. I can understand what youre saying and if it was any other country, it would be probable..but NK military generals are not british or american, they dont have that level of independent thought. theyve been kowtowing to a dictator for 60 years. Would they really rise up against their leader?

and if they are pushing for actual war rather than just bluffing, that really doesnt work.

i think its just too hard to even speculate without knowing more..we need more high level defectors, thats what we need. :o

Well, neither am I frankly. It's just that I haven't seen that theory before, and it does at least explain a few things (such as the recent assassination attempt, and the sudden increase in posturing and rhetoric).

Lets face it - this is North Korea. Nobody really knows what the hell is going on!

what happens on the edge of the blue circle Duff-Man ? :p

Damage to fairly weak buildings, severe third degree burns if you're "out in the sun". General death and unpleasantness, with a moderate chance of survival :p

To be honest, I think I'd prefer to be slap-bang in the middle of the fireball than suffer the fate that thousands around that blue circle would...
