Northern lights from my back garden

Do they actually move or when we see videos are they always sped up?

Do they essentially look like green clouds?
Id describe it as a plume of smoke being blown in a breeze. Pouring a pot of dye/paint off a bridge into a slow moving river :P (put the bong down)
it does move/ripple whatever a poetic word would be. But yeah its sped up.

THis was a pretty weak display, a lot of extra exposure time. When its 3 or 4 times stronger than this, **** gets real ! then it looks like all the professional tour photos.

I prefer a bit of purple sensemilia in my back garden, Northen lights is a bit heavy and the neigbours complain because the ganj smell is really hardcore..............

amazing photo. Was about to say where in the UK are you, then saw location. Do we ever get to see the northern lights in the UK ever ?

I think the northern Scottish coast has seen them a few times before. It's all just pot luck really. I don't think they're very predictable, so would be hard to plan.

You lucky b*****d! :)

They move sometimes very rapidly its not sped up

They've been seen on the south coast of england, that was a long time ago though its dependent on solar activity. Me, i missed it

I was in Norway for a week. But wrong time of year. Was light all day. Not sun up. But light.

No glimpses unfortunately. Still on my "to see" list

I did Tromso last October, we did 2 guided tours. In essence, finding places with clear sky!

1st night no luck, but the 2nd night was truly amazing. So much so, i want to go back for solar maximum period. I wont share the photos :D

Noice!

I saw the auroras in FInland some years ago, we visited during a solar maximum and stayed a full 5 days seeing them every night, truly a thing to behold and they sweep and swoosh across the sky like milk whisking about in a latte sort of thing. See one patch of sky doing the movements but could miss an even nicer one behind you as they only last seconds.

Looks amazing. I shall be in Tromso on 27th December. Hoping for some good conditions and hoping not to freeze to death.
