Nude Pictures taken on Mount Kinabalu

So westerners should be able to go where they want and do what they want then?

Got it.

If they were told it was a sacred place then they were a bit silly, should get a fine and be done with it. You wouldn't do it in a church, mosque whatever.

In their defence though they may have thought it was a sacred place a while back, but probably more a tourist trail now with a great view at the top. The 'swearing' at the guide could be nothing more than being incredulous at such a silly superstition. It's not like they had an orgy up there.

Trying to equate it to an earthquake should be embarrassing for their whole country.

I've been there, they make it abundantly clear that it is still a sacred place, they even have toilets the whole way up the route to the top so people to go on the mountain. I have no sympathy for them, it isn't difficult to respect another country's beliefs, if you don't like them, don't go to the country.

The whole earthquake thing is blown out of proportion to, one minor government official has said that, no different to the idiots in the states that blame homosexual for everything. Every country has some idiots in official position. They haven't been arrested for causing an earthquake though

I'm not talking about the earthquake stuff which of course is stupid. Why would any god worth worshipping cause an earthquake that killed innocent people because some other people who were unhurt upset him.

They committed a criminal offence and have been charged with that offence, can't see the problem. Even her dad agrees.

"When their mountain guide attempted to stop them, the group allegedly hurled vulgarities at the guide, calling him "stupid" and told him to "go to hell"."

Totally different matter to the nudity and for that they should be punished.

Edit: to clarify to wordy, inadvertently doing something is different to being intentionally rude and knowing what you are doing is wrong.

Im sure Daddy is already writting a cheque in that case.

I always wonder where these ideas come from. Most of the people I've met doing a gap year are either slightly older (in their 20s) having done uni, worked for a couple of years to save up money and then quit and gone travelling or 18 and spent the previous two years working like mad to save up the money to do some travelling before going to uni.

Then again I haven't been to SE Asia, perhaps the sort that only go there are different to the sort that go to Africa, Central America and Australasia (most of the latter get their money there by working holidays).

No, not in the slightest. They should respect the country they are ins laws (although I do wonder how much of this is to do with the unlucky coincidence of the earthquake soon after). Doesn't mean I agree with the archaic idea that nudity is bad that seems to perpetuate much of the world (including the UK - where you can show kids simulated murder and violence but even a slight nip slip will cause offence).

What I'm also suggesting is they probably didn't even contemplate that it was wrong, considering it is a fairly common thing to do for people "travelling". Obviously if they were told not to do it by their guide but still did it, then that's a different matter.

That info on the mountain on the BBC website, fantastic:

A priestess, called a Bobolian, makes an offering of seven white chickens accompanied by seven chicken eggs, betel nuts, tobacco, limestone powder, and betel plant leaves. The Bobolian leads a chant and the chickens are then slaughtered, cooked, and given to the ceremony participants.

Maybe Human sacrifice this time ! Controversial !

I'm all for respecting other countries laws, but sometimes they overstep the line

What if a country had a law stating anyone born with blonde hair should be tortured and murdered? Should other countries step in?

Imaginary people....in 2015....still....wow!

Just my personal experience of the people i know that do it/Have done such. I know nothing about her family. Anyone got a clue about them ? See if my stereotype fits.:D

You obviously come from a a slightly more middle class background than me then! :p
