If they were told it was a sacred place then they were a bit silly, should get a fine and be done with it. You wouldn't do it in a church, mosque whatever.
In their defence though they may have thought it was a sacred place a while back, but probably more a tourist trail now with a great view at the top. The 'swearing' at the guide could be nothing more than being incredulous at such a silly superstition. It's not like they had an orgy up there.
Trying to equate it to an earthquake should be embarrassing for their whole country.
