NVIDIA 4000 Series

Yup like I said a few times now, the ones that we all should be blaming is ultimately game devs. a 4090 should not be the minimum required to get good performance in newer titles.... 4090 is a fantastic gpu, only gpu were you could say it is worth the price but that still doesn't change the fact that games such as this shouldn't run like **** on anything but a 4090/4080.

Exactly. I mean imagine paying a four figure sum for a top of the range AMD GPU and for it to run like crap even with all that vram.

We never going to get AAA dev's doing proper optimisation, the meta now is hardware will fix any problems. Especially when a hardware company pays them.

If a game ran well and looked amazing - I could half agree with that. But they just don't. Not thought about it like that though.

But if selling a game - you made it so only 16GB+ people will be able to play it properly, you are narrowing your sales a bit when most other games play fine.

Is that not more down to the game? There's a lot of posts talking about performance issues on a lot of gpus. The patch on Friday has this list of fixes.

Fixes to game crashing issues.
Address the stuttering and lag issues.
Add gameplay adjustments and optimizations.
Add general stability fixes.
Add performance improvements.
Other minor fixes

When it comes to AMD cards performing like crap it's the games fault. When it's nvidia's cards its the lack of vram.

Can someone with a Gigabyte OC 4090 tell me if its possible to set up a silent custom fan curve? I've heard it goes down to 800rpm, is that enough to make it silent?

The MSI fans are excellent but the coil whine is bad. If Gigabyte can get me both good results I'll be happy.

According to some, it's 100% down to vram and nothing else at cause though....

I do suspect this will be heavy on vram but obviously there are issues elsewhere.

Butter those cheeks guys, it's not just VRAM. the game also loves lots of system RAM

Just a quick edit on this: I noticed the guy has an RTX3080. As we all know 10gb vram is not enough and it's especially not enough in this game - the ram usage might be high because the game is pushing data that would be stored in vram if the 3080 had more vram but instead system ram is used. But never the less of you have enough system ram the game seems to run much smoother than if you have too little.

So be warned if you have a low vram GPU the game will use your system RAM instead and if you don't have enough system RAM well then the game is simply unplayable

Yes, it's got ridiculous recently and we haven't even seen the true next generation Unreal Engine 5 games yet!

That's actually because of vram, when your vram is full the game loads into system ram. With a 24gb card you wouldn't have that issue

Yup looks like it, gameGPU shows it off nicely

You can see below it's vram heavy and then it becomes ram heavy where the GPU doesn't have enough vram. Based on YouTube comments, if you don't have enough vram or ram the game crashes to desktop after playing for a while

At least the runs well on Intel and amd cpu, no real advantage to one side

And ladies and gentlemen, we finally have some rdna 2 performance figures for hogwarts and it isn't pretty.....

Seems that ultra performance mode somewhat makes it more playable, thank god nvidia have drastically improved IQ of DLSS performance/UP recently!

All it took was this one game to turn the 4090 into a potato in raytraced 4k. It's a good job its just this one game too!

Just one game..... for now..... ;) :p :D

Personally I think when we start seeing more "next gen"/UE 5/5.1 games, even a 4090 will start to look rather mid end tbh, largely why I am trying to hold of for another gen.
