NVIDIA 4000 Series

But that is what im trying to explain to you. YES, the game will feel laggy in terms of input but not because of the FG but because your actual framerate is 40 fps. So even with fg off, the input lag would still be horrible. FG doesn't create the input lag problem, it just doesnt fix it. Arguably, it even makes it a bit worse, but still thats because your original input lag without fg is horrible
Yes exactly, 40-50fps feels horrible to me, I'm not going to be playing at settings (regardless of FG or not) that feel like 40-50fps (50ms is actually 20fps type response times). I will lower settings to get actual real 120fps, I won't enable RTX if it drops me to 50fps and then I have to try to joke myself in to believing na fps counter that says 120fps when it's actually running with 50ms of input lag because that will feel awful TO ME.

You repeatedly said to me "YOU won't feel it" but I can tell you unequivocally that I will feel 50ms of input lag and it will feel awful, again, TO ME.

If 50ms input lag is the cost of RTX then it is not a cost worth paying, to me.

With the whole DLSS input lag thing: I take it with v3 input lag has increased. How does DLSS 2/3 support work, is it just on a game by game basis or can you choose which version of DLSS you want?
You can ignore the number to fair, there's currently no real difference atm except for frame generation being available with DLSS3 on RTX 4xxx cards. If you are not using FG then the input latency won't be affected.

Just one game..... for now..... ;) :p :D

Personally I think when we start seeing more "next gen"/UE 5/5.1 games, even a 4090 will start to look rather mid end tbh, largely why I am trying to hold of for another gen.
Thinking the same, when more UE5 games are launched i think we're gonna be looking at a few gens of cards before we start seeing high framerates at 4k again.

Unless DLSS magic

I said you won't feel the difference between 50 fps and 50fps + FG that brings you to 100. The input will be equally smooth or equally laggy whether you enable FG or not is what im saying. You only feel the added latency when your game is at lets say 30 fps, and then you activate FG, yeah, the difference in latency is huge there.

FG Is really useful when you are lets say at 70 or 80 fps and you activate it to get to 120 to max your monitor. The added latency there is negligible.

I'd rather not have DLSS 3 if the input lag gets too high, I'll be testing it but most likely not use it. Those that remember old school CRT gaming vs those that never have might also be a factor.
It’s a separate option to DLSS2.
And regarding the input lag if your game runs at 60fps with frame generation you can make it run at “120fps” with input lag similar to what it was when the game was running at 60.
So you get the benefit of extra smoothness and sharpness from doubling framerate without the benefit of lowered latency.
I thought I will not like it before I tried it but now that I have 4090 I use it in every game it’s been implemented in and love it.

Exactly - hence why it's misguided to think that it'll let you* keep your card longer because you'll be able to keep playing when you'd otherwise be replacing it. When it gets to that point FG may make it look smoother, but you'll still want to change card.

*you in the modern replacement for 'one' obviously, not saying you personally :p

You were so close as well, oh well I give up.

Looks like amd cpus are holding back 4090:

Kind of wish I went with a 13600k setup now instead of 5800x3d :(
You think it might get fixed in a future update?

Just enjoy the 5800x3d for two more years and then when the next gen cards come out you can upgrade the CPU around that time.

Lucky for me I do not think it would have much of an impact as I plan to go back to 4K at some point so that will give my 5900X much more breathing room. Plus I would not be bothered if I could not hit higher fps as much. As long as it can hit at least 60fps I would be content :)

Looks like the game is holding back Ryzen CPUs to me, since
The only thing that would fix it is a game patch.

Yep. Would it be fair to say the game is not very well optimised and a bit of a mess at the moment rather than celebrating that it uses more vram? :D

I am sure there will be a bunch of fixes eventually. Not that I am bothered much as it is Harry Potter. Imagine trying to enjoy that story while playing :p

After reading the last few pages about Hogwarts Legacy and then all the claims that consoles are a sub-optimal way of playing games and you need a 4090 to experience them in all their glory. Yeah, good luck with that.
