NVIDIA 4000 Series

Yup so essentially as a couple of us have said all along, a game which was designed for PS 5 hardware setup thus a terrible unoptimised port for PC but nope, not the game, you just need more vram

My problem with the people who go on about "zOMG VRAM" is that they are completely ignoring the fact that so far the games which are problematic on 8gb etc. gpus are broken/unoptimised (hence all the reviews slating them for this, hence all the patches released to address said issues), the core reason vram is problematic is because of them "game" issues/not being catered for how PC works, essentially those with 24GB vram aren't actually getting any real tangible benefit to their gaming experience other than paying a premium to "avoid" encountering such issues as often.... This is where HUB show as being extremely amateur and unprofessional when compared to the likes of DF, they don't look into or rather care about what the root cause is other than "zOMG not enough vram", them clickbait titles/graphs are more important for their ad revenue.

VRAM is no doubt important going forward especially for certain use cases i.e. 4k and/and you refuse to use dlss/fsr etc. but ultimately people should be striving for better optimised PC ports/versions rather than putting the fingers in the ears and as usual blaming the big bad, that and it's obvious now, that the lack of direct storage (good implementation) is holding back PC gaming now rather than lack of vram..... Until this changes, PC is the worst platform if you just want to sit back and game.

Having said all that, TLOU 1 is running great for me with everything on max except texture setting to high and dlss performance, not noticed any texture issues and performance is smooth and good too (with controller), ultimately it's another game where "ultra" settings and even high often make little to no difference but remember "pc master race"....

Steam reviews have changed to 'mixed' now. 44% positive.

All the latest reviews MUST'VE bought a new gfx card or all highVRAM users bought after a week.................................... or maybe the game has been patched/updated/texture packs LOWERED/optimized/fixed/upgraded.

Unheard of after release right?

How much was the 12GB cared over the 10GB? Smart buy? In terms of getting more VRAM yes, 2GB for how much!

You moaning about price and you are punishing NV & AMD by not buying, yet scalped a 3060ti @ £1100!!!:cry:

I've never had a 10GB card...

No scalping I sold it to an idiot miner...just before the **** fell out of it...

Never said you did have a 10GB card.

No scalping

Right.......so who did all the scalpers sell to? Who were PC gamers in competition with to buy cards?

High prices were fueled by the mining craze, but you didn't partake?

Wood, Trees and seeing, spring to mind. Now moans about NV's & AMD's high prices ........¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You mean like CP2077 (which someone was raving about on day 1)

Maybe people started to play at suitable settings for their PC?
For example nexus has no issues playing the game with dlss performance and textures set at high instead of ultra.

cp 2077 also played fine for me on day 1 other than the odd floating texture (vega 56 back then too) :D FC 6 did too once the devs fixed the texture rendering/loading issue :p

No idea what you're waffling on about with 2GB...

Yeah I scalped the scalpers...

Bit like Nvidia pre-scalped for your convenience...

;)

Stairs are also the bane of the last of us as the player goes up them and the performance tanks 50% but before people start screaming about VRAM dont get too excited guys as this happend on a 6700XT. (This more than likely happens on nvidia cards too and may explain why even the 4090 has 1% lows at nearly 50% lower then the average @ 1080p in the HUB benchmark but ignore this as VRAM GRRR!!!)

Pack it up guys as even the 6700XT falls flat on its face and not a smart buy but being abit more serious check the replies as even when Apexlodestar lowers the settings it still happens and also gets the same performance with 2160p FSR Quality + High preset vs 1080p FSR Quality + Low preset.

There's few issues with this game that need addressing as theres two patches due this week for this game but hey if this doesnt get fixed the STAIRS OF CRIPPLING PERFORMANCE!!!11 could become the new Tom's Diner from Cyberpunk.

I suppose with Nvidia only putting 6GB~8GB of VRAM on the RTX4050/RTX4060/RTX4060TI, they probably need to make 8GB of VRAM relevant,at least for the next year or so!

The DF video on TLoU, they used a 3600 and showed a section where the fps dropped - they used a 4090 - and if they sat still and did nothing, 50 seconds later the fps went back up. They assumed it's the game decompressing in the background as it uses the same compression as the PS5, which isn't normally used on PC, instead an easier on the CPU compression is generally used.

Not allowed apparently for some. ONLY allowed to use ULTRA preset that game reviewers use. Anything less is heresy.

The higher/higheset presets are used by reviewers/ tech sites to compare the performance different GPUS. If a GPU drops down the list below expected because of the lack of vram it's going to get called out.

However in the real world If you find you don't have enough vram then you simply lower some settings to get back within your limit.....If a game runs like **** with RT enabled then turn it off(like most people do). It's fairly basic stuff.

And if the devs optimize to better manage vram usage then you can try again at higher settings and ask the review sites to look at the GPU performance again.

TLOU runs like **** even on my 4090. Barely scratching 80 fps at 4k and I have seen spikes of VRAM usage above 16GB multiple times. The game looks good buts it not on the level of Exodus or 2077. I would not write off 8GB GPUs purely based on this game as from what I am reading, the developers tried to emulate a PS5 on PC hardware with their porting rather than developing it for PC from the ground up. My 12700K is constantly under load as if I am running Prime95 on it in this game. 17GB of VRAM usage after 4 hours of playing is insane. This needed a year to be ready.

Also good to see DF firing shots at Hardware Unboxed with his doomsday prediction for 8GB cards. It's clear HUB is now a channel for just AMD users. I only had to play half hour to realise how broken this port is. My CPU is screaming whilst running with stutters and freezes every now and then. Who in their right mind benchmarks such a game to support their nonsensical diatribe of 8GB dying. Half of the PC market is on 8GB. No one in their right mind would make a game which doesn't run on 8GB

The only way to get it to run at 1440p on 8GB cards is to use insane levels of DLSS or turn down textures to medium at which point, the game legit looks worse than the PS4 remaster from 2013. Reviews are likely changing to mixed because only those with high end GPUs are buying the game now. The game has already dropped below top 20 in Steam top sellers and concurrent users are barely scraping 11,000 on launch week.

Digital Shilleries - an Nvidia PR mouthpiece attacking another channel that actually calls out how ***** they are? Gasp, i am surprised.

Did you even watch the digital foundry video on TLOU1? It shows how unprofessional and amateur HUB really is.

The only material of DF which is sponsored by nvidia is when it comes to new product/release day, everything else is 100% their own take.

Not a single reviewer touches DF for their in depth analysis and to my knowledge, they are the only ones or rather Alex who is pushing the PC gaming development industry for better optimised PC ports but if people rather spend the extra ££££ just to avoid encountering these issues, then be my guest, I look forward to the days where the only way to run games on PC better than console requires nothing but the very best hardware and everything below provides an experience worse than consoles

This is what I said on the YouTube video (review of TLOU 1 on HUB channel). I think Hardware Unboxed click bated PC gamers. With the assertion that 8 gig of VRAM in 2023 is no longer good enough. To get views.

I made the point that the game review is only one game, of many. That the game was known to be extremely badly programmed for PC, when the source code originates for a decade old game, with flashy new textures.

I will look at the Digital Foundry article. I just wish HUB would retract their flawed review.
