NVIDIA 4000 Series

I certainly wouldn’t trade 25% less raster than a 70 card normally gets and a bump of £100 in price for DLSS3 especially as it’s only in a handful of games so far.
Have noticed plenty of users in here heralding proprietary DLSS and how much better it is than AMDs free open source equivalent...
but refusing to pay for it.

DLSS is better than FSR but that's available on all RTX cards, I think its the FG that's locked into 4000 series that people are not willing to pay for especially given the price premium, raster trade off and the fact that's its not even in that many games right now.

Tbf the 4070 gets beat by the 3080, 6800XT and 7800XT in most games and considering a 70 usually delivers the previous gens top performance the 4070 is well down on that despite the £100 msrp increase.

Pertinent video as I agree its not worth coming off a 3080 (or thereabouts) its not worth dropping the asking for such a sidegrade.

And the Winner is...

In terms of performance, the Radeon 7800 XT and GeForce RTX 4070 are generally evenly matched

Now it comes down to features and for me nvidia wins hands down. These gpus will need upscaling in the most demanding games on the way, FSR is not my cup of tea. Framegen works wonders. DLSS 3.5 is another bonus. As for the 3080, the performance difference is negligible in most games at nearly half the power draw and more vram for the 4070. Who is buying a used 3080 unless dirt cheap.

So yes the 4070 is a cracking buy in todays market, especially at £530.

It really isn't when you consider what you could have had performance and price wise 3 years ago in comparison, ignoring the scalping/crypto crazy driving prices.

Even the performance delta from the 3070 is pretty woeful given the price.

Yeah but DLSS 3!

Had he not said in today's market I would have ripped him a new one. Today's market is absolutely rubbish.

Just look at what AMD want for the 7800 XT. Shouldn't that card be named 7600 XT and be much cheaper?

7800xt think more 6700xt successor looking at the die used and uplift from it

I know you own one but saying anything is a cracking buy this generation is really stretching

4070 is not a cracking buy, just a little less of a spit in the face when upgrading from something older if you get one second hand or wait a bit more. After all, it's still a very power-efficient 3080 with newer tech, 12GB default, and no hassle with voltage spikes and vram section running around 100c without modding or the risk of getting a mining card on its last legs.

Still, it should be cheaper.

Same with the 7800XT which is really the 6700XT successor and so much more powerful than the 6800XT, right? Since were using that argument against the 4070, let's be fair then:P

I might have to get a 4070 even though i wanted a 7800XT.. i only play DayZ these days and theres a lot of talk of how rubbish AMD is when in built up areas of the DayZ maps.. drops to 40fps is something i really dont want especially when my 3060Ti stays locked to 120fps anywhere on ANY map in DayZ. Its a bummer that i might have to go with Nvidia again but its my only choice if these stories are true.

DayZ only uses 5-6GB VRAM at 1080p on my 3060TI anyway so at least i dont have to worry about that.

This might be my last GPU for a long time with only playing the one game and i dont even play DayZ that much anymore.. the 4070 should be good for Dj'ing/streaming for a long time (AV1 encoding should appear on Twitch within the next 12 months too) but i'll just wait for the price to come down some more.

And that is a valid reason for a 4070 over a 7800XT.. cheers :)

Edit.. Oh and that video above, getting 150 back for a 3060Ti? I know im getting £200+ back for mine on the bay.

The 4070 is one of the worse if not the worse 70 class card ever.

GTX780>970 +21% performance
980>1070 + 29%
1080 > 2070 +14%
2080 > 3070 + 26%
3080 > 4070 - 6%

Indeed. But all we can do when needing to buy now is judge it against what is available.

You would think with such a crap offering based on what you demonstrated above, AMD would crush them. Instead we got the 7800 XT

78XT'll maybe crush the 4070 in almost every game with driver level FG sometime next year but the IQ cost(just like DLSS3) literally remains to be seen, then you'll get your wish.

I think your missing the point. That card should have been named 7700 XT at most and been cheaper.

We can't **** off Nvidia for the 4070 and then praise AMD for the 7800 XT.

I'm not slagging off the 4070 though, I've bought 2 cards from this gen.

Wait and see the price drops on 78/77.

The circular 4070 should have been a 4060 and 78 should have been a 77 doesn't interest me as the price is the price because of software features and I buy what I want.
