NVIDIA 4000 Series

Good old times, but long gone... or are they? We are at the very limits of what silicon can do, maybe 2 more generations of GPUs and that's it. The time might come when having a GPU for 5+ years won't change much performance-wise. Makes me wonder what will NVIDIA and AMD come up with then - RT is already here, upscaling and AI here, what else can they innovate with? :)
I think the days of good to excellent performance jumps, generation over generation, are mostly gone, and now we will see improvements at far lower levels than we would like and with price increases higher than those performance increases.

I think performance wise GPUs have hit a period of stagnation, unless there is a new tech breakthough.

It was 2080ti that was 15% faster than 2080 super not the other way around.
2080 super had the smallest uplift from all super cards that generation from what I remember.

Got my numbers mixed up, you could almost call these super cards a relaunch at the price they were supposed to be.

The 2080 super was around 10-15% faster than the 2080ti. More or less what's expected with a refresh vs this joke.

Neah, 2080S is still around 5% faster than 2080

Depends how you look at it. 2080 gave me around 30fps at 1080p in Cyberpunk with path tracing, while 4080 is around 4k 60fps +/- (with frame gen, but still).
At least for nVIDIA, 4xxx is pretty good when it comes to RT, but games have to catch up.

4080 performance for $200 less seems quite decent tbf. Tempted as would sell the 3080 for £350.

FG mod is nice when it "works" but sadly, it's very hit and miss and AMDs FSR 3 official integration is still **** poor for uptake, not to mention, forced to use FSR upscaling. The extra RT grunt is kind of becoming more necessary now as expected.

Is that it now will the FE be out of stock for the foreseeable? Not sure how it works on the nvidia website there’s no notify for stock or anything

No real rhyme or reason to it, stock gets listed randomly as they have it available and generally goes quite quickly if there is any demand, sometimes hangs around awhile if not.

One of the reviews I watch today referred to this perception as 'anchoring': they set a high price, then release a product at a reduced price and because it's a reduced price it seems better.

BTW I'm pleased to see the A770 perform so well, bettering the RTX 4060.

Just been reading up on the ‘next gen’ cards coming from both companies, and all the rumours suggest that amd won’t be launching any flagship cards to rival nvidia (their best will be inline with the 79xt). If that is the case then surely we would be lucky to see a 5080 for the same price as the 4080S?

Too late into the cycle to be paying that still over priced

Well about £100 in my case (Got the one in my sig) But yeah, I went from a 3070Ti (Only because I am giving this to my Son)
But I am more than happy for a slightly cheaper 4080 with a little extra grunt, for less.

It seems the people that are having a go at these new Super's are the one's either upgrading from something that is still a relevant card (So not noticing as much as an uplift as THEY expected) Or care to much about numbers in benchmarks.

Just tested mine in Time Spy (Because that was the only test I did previously on my 3070Ti). And went up from 14000+ to 24000+.
That's it, no more testing needed. Runs everything I want and more. Don't care if someone gets a 2 point better score.

Time to play :p

RT isn't representative of overall performance and paints the 40-series in a better light.

The 4080S is around 50% faster than a 3080, is that worth a minimum £600 cost-to-change?

Feels like the conditioning is working here , the card is still overpriced this late into the cycle without hardly any uplift from the stock one , just added super at the end of the name

The 4080 was an 84% gen on gen price increase followed by the super now getting a 20% price cut so it must be good value!
I never once said it was good value though did? I am not to sure moaning about pricing non stop is the answer though, next gen from both brands are still going to be expensive
