NVIDIA 4000 Series

4090fe back in stock for anyone wanting their sphincter widened!

I did consider getting one but when I could get a 4080 Super for nearly half the price and being this close to the end of the 4000 series product cycle I decided to save the ~£600-700 towards next gen instead.

I was torn between the two (but at standard FE prices). I ended up going for the 4090, but have since been having buyers remorse thinking I should've got the 4080 SUPER.

Ah well, too late now I guess.

If I was spending the £1000+ I'd definitely have gone for the 4090 personally, but being able to get the 4080 below a grand was a different story.

Given you'd get 250-300 quid for your 3070, do you feel that the 650-700 quid you've had to fork out for the upgrade was worth it now that you have the new card?

It's a genuine question, I'm having massive difficulty justifying this type of cost so am curious as to how someone who has done it feels about the upgrade. I could get a 4080s, but I can't deal with shelling out that much money for a not so appreciable gain.

I bet you keep thinking "I should got the 4090":cry::cry:

I probably would have done if I'd paid the normal price on this card, but 4090 is overkill for my needs as things stand while the 4080 Super is fine for my needs, so in my mind I'm already £600 in hand for the 5000 series... assuming they aren't a joke in price.

I couldn't personally feel right about buying the 4080 Super at the normal prices, even the FE at £959 would be a stretch if it was near the start of the product cycle rather than near the end, if you can get a good price for the 3070 then it makes it a bit easier to swallow. They are decent performing cards just not £1000+ worth in my opinion - the Gigabyte 4080 Super Gaming OC gets almost exactly double the performance of my 3070, give or take 2-3 FPS, in a lot of stuff.

Nice way of looking at things. If I did the same I would be even more in hand after selling my 3080 to CEX for £1620 a few years ago. But no chance I will pay silly prices next gen. They really need to push and improve price for performance.

Say a 5070 is £700 but is 40% or more better than what I have. Then even though the price is silly one can justify it after selling what I have. But say it is 20% better and £900. They can keep it.

For me it isn't about the money, but what I get for it - I'd buy a £700 5070 if it was a proper step up from a 4070 and had a reasonable amount of VRAM, etc., though I've kind of put myself in a silly tier position now.

Also I don't generally sell my old GPUs or only when they are like 2-3 generations back which somewhat alters my perspective - I like to keep at least one recent(ish) GPU as a backup and in this case the 3070 has gone in the eGPU enclosure I'm using with the Lenovo Legion Go.
