NVIDIA 4000 Series

I wouldn't bother with 4080 if they do 10/12GB VRAM
They would be silly if they do that imo. We are in 2022 now and most probably won’t be able to get hold of it until 2023. They have 2GB modules available now, so no excuses. They need to give people the choice at the very least.

At the least the 4070 needs to have 12GB. Though it really should be 16GB.

Well, the RTX 3080 FE (at stock settings) uses about 45% more power than the RTX 3070 FE.
If the RTX 4080 and 4070 follow that pattern, you'd expect the RTX 4070 to use approx. 330w of power (assuming 600w for the 4080). So, the RTX 4070 will probably still work on a high quality 600w power supply.

The more I read about the power requirements the more I think history is repeating itself, GTX 480 > RTX 4080 put that toast on Ma its going to get hot! ;)

IMHO they should go for 8/12/16/20/24 GB for 4050/4060/4070/4080/4090 and get more cores for ti versions to boost fps.

But they will go what market dictate to them and face us to make hard choice between limited overpriced stock.

AD103 has 256 bit bus, there is a huge difference in SM between AD102 and AD103 so I can bet that RTX 4070 will get this chip, that means 16GB VRAM.

Micron finally has 2GB modules available, they are launching with RTX 3090Ti.
This is how the lineup will look like.

AD102 384bit 24/48GB VRAM RTX 4080Ti/90/90Ti
AD102 320bit 20GB VRAM RTX 4080
AD103 256bit 16GB VRAM RTX 4070/Ti
AD104 192bit 12GB VRAM RTX 4060/TI
AD106 128bit 8GB VRAM RTX 4050Ti
AD107 128bit 4/8GB VRAM both versions available RTX 4050.

Remember that AMD is rumored to bring serious competition to the market with MCM, this is why Nvidia is pushing 450W+ on next gen GPUs.

Agreed... Although I think it will get 12GB. Nvidia had the chance to boost VRAM against competition that had done so, but didn't. I can understand being caught out when products are released, but the 3080 refresh only got to 12gb. Vram is not the differential that nvidia are going for.

I also see a 4070 being better than a 3080, but probably not by as much as seems to be assumed. It also would make the 5000 series performance more challenging shortly after, and nvidia (and amd) will be aiming for people to upgrade each gen.

12GB would be fine for 4K. It won't be able to handle higher resolutions than this anyway. I think even 10GB might be alright in most cases, but it's a good idea to have a little headroom for future games.

Hopefully, developers and game engines will get more efficient with VRAM usage and texture streaming, so it will become less of an issue.

If AMD / Nvidia make all cards 16GB, it just pushes prices up across the board.

I think the RTX 4070 will be a lot like the RTX 3080, but with improved Ray tracing performance (so could probably use that extra 2GB of VRAM). It wouldn't surprise me if Nvidia aims for 50-100% improvement vs Ampere ray tracing performance, then they can try to push for ray tracing to become a standardized feature in games / default game presets.

Yay, finally no more rear overheating memory modules. Don't worry, the same rumours say that AMD is also pushing 450w+ on RDNA3 - so who's pushing who

Greta will be pushing them to be more eco friendly when she finds out how much power they use :D
I guess we need alternative ways to heat our home with the current energy prices.

I've currently got a Asus dual mini 3060ti in my itx build. This was the largest graphics card that could fit.

Do you think it will be the same for 4000 series ie stuck with X060ti cards

i don't think such a. Small case is for gaming, if such a small card barely fits then that case is probably made to be a streaming servers of Microsoft excel processing

This card going to be way overpowered, I remember the days when nvidia made devs do tesselation in hidden areas to make people buy new gpu's from them, I wonder if we going to get same again with affiliated dev's making their games really unoptimised to sell these gpu's.

Unless these cards will be capable of 4k@60fps (at least) while doing path tracing they'll be pretty far from overpowered.

Yeah. Only overpowered if you are on a potato resolution with no HDR and don’t use RT. I could easily make use a lot more rasta and rt grunt, especially the latter (just whack on DLDSR for starters). But I won’t pay silly moneys for it. That’s why 3090 performance or better will need to come down to the £499 or there abouts price bracket.

Yeah, with RT/PT on the table, there is room to grow and improve, especially on the pricing side. :)

that is just so wrong

Wow I didn’t know that used to happen. Makes sense from Nvidias perspective though lol

1080p still the main gaming resolution on steam. RT also in a tiny minority of games.

Why do people keep using steam to back up their position? Are those figures not for the whole world? That will include laptops, Internet cafes, third world etc?

We are at Overclockers UK here mate… Go make a poll and let’s see if people here agree if the next gen of cards will be overpowered or not ;)
