No DLSS rubbish, DX 12 is still broken in MSFS so as anyone that knows how to use and test MSFS correctly you use DX 11 as he did above, good video and reality is at native it's still hugely cpu bound at 4k and the gpu even ends up at 50% use (check the cockpit views, not the outside views as they are normally fine anyways and you don't fly a plane sat outside it), so basically if on a 3080 and up and don't use broken dx12 and dlss you will not see a huge uplift to a 4090 on msfs unless you use 8K  as he shows in the video and it pins the gpu to 99%.

Annoyed that MSFS is still so cpu bound and no future gpu will really help it at native settings 4k and under. DLSS 3 is a no go with this no matter what nvidia and DLSS 3 lovers say until they fix it for the horrible artifacts and treacle feel when flying, fake frames don't work and only giving bad image and high fps on the counter for a worst experience on this, people on msfs with 4090s now are all saying it sucks with DLSS3 so far on the sim forums.

Considering going for a AIB card when next instock instead of waiting for a FE

What are the top 3 cards to look at? Do I want one with the 600w power draw?

Thanks
In my testing 600w makes zero difference. Its silicon lottery as with anything. Power and voltage scaling not great. Good silicon is.

Is there any advantage for the more expensive cards? Buying a ROG Strix for example, will this be better silicon than one of the cheaper cards? Even slightly better cooling maybe?

My strix 4090 has slight coilwhine - but very, very bearable. With case closed, it's not that audible at all. My 3090 FE screamed like a pig in comparison!
Hi, I got the strix too. What case do you have? Were you able to close the side panel without hassle, with the default adapter?

Yeap, closes without issue, though does brush up against the side panel slightly. It'll do until my custom cable mods 16 pin cable arrives!

Thank you for the pic! What case is this? I’ve a lancool 2 mesh with 176mm cpu clearance. Strix is 160mm not taking the adapter length into consideration. Would this be an issue? I could upgrade to a Fractal torrent with 188mm clearance. What do you suggest? Custom cable mods aren’t available in my country :( so have to use the default adapter.

I'm getting 3Ghz boost on my Suprim X without raising power limit, and on 'Quiet' BIOS setting. It's pulling about 400w in heavy loads like Cyberpunk, and now playing PGA Tour 2K23, where my entire system is pulling only 400w.

That's good enough for me!

No still a lottery. One review site who tested 10 AIB cards, the Asus Oc Strix had the worst max boost clock speed.
Previously with the likes of EVGA you could flash to a higher power bios which made a difference at least. This time around it’s literally pointless going with a higher priced card it seems, unless something improves later on down the line, which I doubt. I feel like returning my Strix OC now, but the chances of getting a Founders card aren’t great.

I've got the same gpu yes it is quiet isn't it i've just ran timespy extreme it got 19300 graphics score stock. How much ru adding to core and memory? I want to oc mine, not sure how much to add. During benchmark it boosted to 2750mhz stock.
20500 Graphics score with +275 Core and +1500 Memory which seems to be max but is not fully stable for 24/7. With Memory OC you have to be careful because it can cause memory corruption which will result in lower scores.

What case are you running the strix with and how is the fit with the default adapter?

I've got MSI RTX 4090 Gaming Trio which is the lowest model from MSI (paid MSRP for it)and even when overclocked to the absolute max it's very quiet and the temps are not even exceeding 70c on the core and 80c on the hotspot. Memory is also well under 90c were my Asus 3090 Strix was easily exceeding 100c at stock.
When fans are pushed to 100%, yes the card is extremely loud but the temps as you said are low between 50-60c.
My tj max ( vram ) never goes above 75. Zotac 3090 no overclock.

Just saw this video too from our friends WCCFtech.. yes I know... but ..

Outside view ... DLSS 3 and DX12 of course for it to work.. 120-130fps and cpu bound and 50% gpu usage  ... look high frames .... 50% faked... so basically 60-65 fps in reality. Same as native without DLSS and on DX11 that's not broken for addons and other issues DX12 has with msfs.

Wish they did a cockpit view to show really how bad it is on the gpu use when really really cpu bound as msfs gets in cockpit view.

Anyways I'm out for now as that's really put me off updating to a 4090 now, but will get hands on this weekend at a colleges house with his 4090 and 7950x to test it out myself, but from what I'm seeing its same as before like when they went from 2080ti to 3080 and really showed a very small uplift then and now i'm sure there is zero uplift from a 3080 and up on native with a 4090 just less gpu use and quieter and cooler system so you loose that flying in a plane sound when your gpu revs the fans up . Kidding apart, really annoyed was looking forward to MSFS getting a nice performance bump at native and DLSS but the image quality suffers and the input latency on a sim is a no go for me.
