NVIDIA 4000 Series

Loooool. Probably wise though. Come back with a rename/better price (I realise I'm daydreaming on the latter)

The GPU size of the AD104 is under 300MM2 so is closer to the GA106 rather than the GA104. It also has a 192 bit memory bus like an RTX3060.

So even calling it an RTX4070 is generous to Nvidia. It is more like an RTX4060 or RTX4060TI.

Never made sense as the different tiers of Nvidia products are well known and to have two 80 versions was not not very smart.

I’ve just had the email from NVIDIA to buy a 4090 FE. Like thanks it’s such a privilege you’re letting me buy your horrendously overpriced GPU.

Not even interested in buying the crazy priced 4090, I’m happy with my 3080
Not a bad way of approaching sales however. Hopefully they're targeting particular customers rather than just randomised based on account email addresses they hold. I used to do the survey things for them until I ended up doing no gaming between the survey requests :). Customers doing those surveys a good choice for first dibs imo.

Still think it's crazy the times we're in. I mean cannot even buy expensive luxury items due to lack of availability. Off topic but I registered to buy an expensive commuter bike back in Feb and still not been lucky in any of their ballots. Currently the only way to spend £4k buying one is to WIN a chance to BUY one.
Want a nice luxury EV? Nah, 12 month+ wait in some cases.

Hope NV can start knocking them out in decent enough numbers so those who want one can get their hands on one soon.

It's a cash grab like they did when they made the sub 300MM2 GK104 the "high-end" GTX680(because they could) and pushed up the TU106 to the 70 series class,ie,RTX2070.

This time it is even worse, because even if you were to name it an RTX4070,instead of being sub $500/£500 they have pushed it upwards to £900+ and it is even worse if you look at it as an RTX3060 or RTX3060TI successor. Nvidia is desperate to prop up its margins to make up for it's loss in sales of $1.4 billion this quarter and wants to sell out Ampere based dGPUs without discounting them.

But the problem most of the Ampere based dGPUs are overpriced, outside the original RTX3060TI and RTX3080. The second release SKUs,such as the RTX3060,RTX3070TI,RTX3080TI,etc were all overpriced.

Now lets rename the 4080 16GB to 4060 Ti and price it at £449 and all will be good.

Use DDU to uninstall drivers and shut down (option in DDU).

Then replace the card. Install drivers.

lol

Yeah that wasn't a well thought out idea and this confirms it. It'll probably be called 4075. If they shift everything down then the 4050 actually turns out to be a pretty good card and that's not supposed to happen.

I just shut down my comp, removed the old card , installed the new card and then installed the nvidia drivers over the old ones with "clean install" ticked

The current drivers you have won't support the 4090 anyway unless you updated to the latest ones already

Impatience is getting the better of me. Wait for the 4090 or go for a 3090ti? I game on a super ultra wide so not quite 4k but still plenty of pixels to power.

To anyone who got the 4090 fe, could you measure the box it came in. I have this crazy idea to build a whole PC inside the box, or if it is not sturdy enough, in a case of my own making that is the same size.

They’ve been hoarding them for months, I wouldn’t be surprised if they had hundreds of thousands of the things in a big warehouse somewhere.

Remember the warehouse at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark? Maybe not that many but the whole situation of availability is Nvidia BS to clear the 30 series.

I’m 100% positive that if they wanted to the 4090FE would still be showing in stock right now.

Just swap the card, they share the same driver, assuming you’re using the latest driver already.
