NVIDIA 4000 Series

And you wonder why EVGA got out of working with Nvidia............

I'd be really ****** if I were an Nvidia partner right now. All those 4080 12GB GPUs would need to be reflashed and rebranded, with new packaging design and pricing is all screwed up. Imagine designing a PCB/cooler for a GPU thinking it's a $1000 one and now having to sell it for maybe $600.

just installed the 4090

its eaten up 2 of my needed PCIe slots (lame)

Had to remove my wifi 6 adaptor, cant put it in the PCIe slot 4 as thats disabled because im using sata 5 and 6 to connect a couple of 4tb mechanical drives

Ive got a 48 lane CPU so all my slots should be active, but its the motherboard. Asus x299 strix (lame)

No decent 48 lane CPU to replace my 10940 as all the other latest i9s have a low number of pcie lanes

Took the back plastic wrapper off and the message "high electricity consumption" has tatooed the back plate like its printed with broken paint,

The big fat x4 8pin connectors thats bang in the middle of the card, looks ugly, and I cant tuck it away, and it covers the nice rgb lights

oh and theres a RGB strip extender so u can sync the gpu rgb to a strip, in order to connect that extender you have to take the back plate off

so far no gaming no benches, but not overall impressed

At least i can now rma my 3090ti

now I have to remove my drives to activate that last pcie slot for my wifi6 adaptor

would have got a nas drive but they no good for gaming, only storage.

Anyone know how to increase the voltage on the 4090? The voltage slider is greyed out on latest MSI Afterburner.

Think the cards are voltage locked, not sure if this also means it can’t be changed with a custom BIOS flashed.

Damn shame, upping the voltage is where the real performance would come from given the cooler sizes and general efficiency.

I've had a bit of time with my Inno3D X3 OC now. One point to note that caused me a bit of worry - the Inno3D website states an 850W PSU as the minimum, but the box states 1000W. Given I'd limited myself to cards with a stated 850W requirement, that didn't delight me. That said, I've stress tested the hell out of the thing (including 15 mins of a full OCCT power test) and it's seemed ok. Got a 1000W PSU arriving tomorrow, and I'll be happier when that's fitted.

Beyond that, my god this is impressive. It's incredibly quiet (can't hear any coil whine at all and the fans are decently quiet under load), doesn't run too hot and the performance boosts per game compared with a 3090 range from "decent" (Mechwarrior 5) to "jaw dropping" (Forza Horizon 5, Cyberpunk). As per the Eurogamer review, it feels like 4k gaming is "solved" now.

Thanks for the link Sparx. Card ordered and shipped :D
Lucky man :D Would still like an FE myself so if you get a code ( or anyone else ) feel free to fire it over  I have a Zotac Trinity OC ( installing tomorrow) and the only reason i would swap is because the block is out next month for the FE and after speaking with EK today they confirmed they are making a block for Zotac but wont be here till early next year

What card you got ? i noticed on Jay2cents video that his FE had the voltage bar greyed out in msi afterburner but have also seen a few aib being able to adjust it from 1.05v to 1.1v but still leaves the card voltage limited :(

Anyone else think Nvidia should be giving board partners a kick back due to 4080 12gb being put into a more appropriate tier name wise and likely price wise?

Ah just installed MSI Afterburner 4.6.5 (Beta2) (Was on final series). Now voltage is unlocked and got a nice bump. Approaching 3100 MHz core at 133% power target and my cards running 60C in Superposition. This Gigabyte Gaming OC is turning out to be a pretty sweet card. And quite quiet too.

OK just to dispel any FUD out there.. these cards (at least my Gigabyte Gaming OC) voltage is NOT locked. Stock slider position the card is 1.05v, slider to max right is 1.1v.
