NVIDIA 4000 Series

I would put that rad in the top of the case, running with tubes up like that is not a good idea, you're pushing air around the loop with it like that.

Edit: or at least in the back of the case where you have room to orientate it tubes down.
Thanks for the info I’ve had the cooler setup like that for the last 4 years, unfortunately the NZXT H400 only supports front mounted radiators you can probably unofficially mount on top, the cooler pipes aren’t as high up now as you can adjust the angle and they were hitting the fans lol.

It’s a 9900K, Idle temp is 30C even in summer and gaming is mid 60s while stress tests on CPU have seen 75C which I think is ok. If or when the cooler gives up, I might just give in and buy a new case to go with it!

I've just ordered one and it was £40.
However, it does mean I can put the front panel on again :D
Ah i ordered the 3 x 8 pin rather than 4 x 8 pin as that will still easily do 600w if need and frees up a socket on the psu , other thing could be exchange rate may have changed which will push up price although the rate i got was rubbish at 1.09

The front panel does go on with mine ( 011 XL ) just its such a mess in its current form , at least with the cablemod one we get a nice single run rather than 4 cables all over the place :D

Appreciate the concern, I did test it without any adjustment on the GPU and it ran within limits anyway when my cpu had an overclock. That's when I sent the other PSU back. I'll keep an eye on it though.

In preparation for the last mess which was the 3000 launch which I missed out on I had so many tabs open I manage to nab two 4090s. The ichill and the Asus tuf oc. I think had I of kept the tuf oc with the 1000w limit I would have definitely needed a bigger PSU but kept the ichill it was 300 cheaper and saved a 150 on the PSU upgrade. I sent the tuf back.

So far MSFS with my 4090 in vr with my g2 has been fantastic, I can now double openxr to 200% and it's clearer and smoother than it ever was with my 3080ti. Very happy with the upgrade and actually only using about 50w more than the 3080ti was.

I'm in middle of building a work mates pc with a 7950x and 4090, we finally finished getting his old pc setup for his kids and almost done building his new one and transplanting his drives into the new one, but his kids are killing the internet now downloading games so by time we get done and have to install msfs and all the windows updates and drivers its time for bed and msfs takes hours if not a full day to get all the install files and updates even on a good connection grrr. I was hoping to test it all out today but I think we will do the testing of msfs another day as I'm totally brain dead now watching % counters from his old pc updating and restarting and updating again.. Got to love computers and the never ending updates even on a latest iso of windows 11.

I want to test if it's worth updating one of my 3090s on the HTPC for a 4090 as that can end up as my MSFS rig as my work rig with dual 3090s needs to stay as it is as I need 48GB VRAM for my work and only way I can do that is with that setup and not interested in spending over £5.5K on a A6000 with 48GB  .

Looking forward to testing out msfs on the 4090 and only reason I would update the 3090 in the HTPC is for that and sadly if the 4090s had NVLINK I would have just updated the work rig to two 4090s in NVLINK but no Nvidia removed it...:( and kept the HTPC on the 3090 as it's more than enough.

BTW you're welcome and it was concern as I would hate to see anyone get hurt because of a psu in a system that could cause a safety issue and wanted you to be aware of that.

Had the chance to pre-order an ASUS TUF 4090 (non-EU country in the Eurozone) that wouldn't arrive until middle or late November so decided to push the button and keep it on the back burner just in case the RNDA3 release is disappointing and then stock dries up by that time. I can always cancel or return in new condition within 30 days so it's a safe bet. :)

EDIT - Ok the ASUS ROG Strix was only £120 more than the TUF and would be delivered at the same time so I put a pre-order in for that too then I will keep the one I like best (I haven't researched the differences yet).

On a serious question, have you visually seen any difference in what you play?
In games like Witcher 3 it doesn’t make any difference as 3080 RTX was good enough for 4K/60 however in cyberpunk if you want Ray tracing on and ultra at 4K it does make a big difference as it helps get nearer to 60 FPS. On my 3080 I had to play with DLSS on at 1440p to get anywhere near 60 FPS with ray tracing. With the 4090 you still can’t play native 4K/60 with ultra ray tracing as it achieves 45 FPS but with DLSS quality it manages 60 FPS and looks good.

Suppose not much will change even when the new 4080 launches as its so crap for value.
I think we'll see the 4080 release at $900 as nvidia will probably say 'we said the 4080 would start at $900 and now that we unlaunched the 12gb model we will honour the $900 price point for the 16gb version' and everyone will say wow what a consumer friendly move by nvidia and rush out to buy as people cannot see the wood for the trees.

Almost a 1000 quid for a card that's 40% behind the top card doesn't seem like good value me and would need to drop to atleast £650 before I even considered it as last gen a card that was behind the top card by 40%'cost £469.

^.... you have been a fire risk since you have been on these forums, but made of asbestos so not worried about you :p (I know you know what you are doing, just worried about new people to the pc hobby that don't understand how important a good psu is and right wattage to use)

Agree. They will show face to rescue some rep once the 30 series stock disappears.

For those that are limited on space like me with the O11 Dynamic XL Cablemod have said they're going to manufacture a right angled 16 Pin cable.

I'm going to wait for this rather than buy a new case or new PSU for now.

I've only had this seasonic gold 850w for 3 years so has years of life left and a 10 yr warranty but is sufficient enough for my 12900k and the 4090 so will save some cash.

What is annoying is that Seasonic has started a promotion since the 4090 was released for a free 16 Pin cable to anyone who owns their PSU's but there's a catch it's 1000w and up and it has to have been purchased in the last 12 months.

Bit of a joke if you ask me, Supporting their products for 10 yrs but not giving the free cable for the life of a PSU and you can't even purchase it from them lol.

Edit slight mistake on the Cablemod 16 Pin cable it's not a complete new right angled complete cable it's just a right angled adaptor, Jeez that would have been perfect for me but now means you'd have to buy the cable and the adaptor and will probably still look like something Frankenstein created wtf lol.

What 4090 do you have that doesn't fit the 011D XL out of interest?

I have the Inno3d Ichill X3 which according to 8 Pack is one of the smallest as it happens, The card fits fine it's the cable and panel that is putting pressure on the plug, There's a lot of weight on these new 16 Pin plugs with a bunch of 8 pin cables dangling down from them, It really is a poor design, This plug should have been shielded and reinforced with a metal casing, Bad design and people are going to crack and break these plugs from their GPUs I'm pretty certain of that.

Strange as the Zotac is bigger than the ichilli x3 afaik yet my glass panel goes on fine , yes the cables are resting against it but no way are they under lots of pressure as can be seen in my pic above . The cable that is included is indeed a bad design but i doubt will brake anything unless being a bit heavy handed with it like trying to force it .

I'm guessing when he says one of the smallest he probably means in length but I think most have to be the same or similar width simply because of the width of the board I don't think there will be much difference where the plug connects on most boards they all seem to be in the same place.

I mean the panel closes but it needed quite some bend with that cable before plugging it in to make sure it was as bent as possible without the glass panel sliding up then down putting pressure on the plug.

These Nvidia adaptors that are shipping with the 4090 are the most flexible cable I have ever seen are they to be perfectly honest.

That really annoying the asus 4090 tuf doesn't seem to have the fan headers like the strix which i have always used on my strix 2080ti to control my case fans

Picture of the fan headers on the 4090 Strix below

Near the back of the card you'll find two fan headers that run the connected fans at the same speed as the GPU fans, including fan stop.
This makes it a great option to control the case fans according to graphics card temperature.
