14 is just the number of people who bothered to post on reddit. It's unliklely to be anywhere near the total number of burned connectors in the wild.

Tomshardware author wrote article made some errors. RTX 4080 12GB did not have 256 bit memory bus!
Actually RTX 4080 16GB used 256 bit memory bus so the fact is RTX 4080 12GB used 192 bit memory bus. Performance did not matched RTX 3080 12GB accorded to videocardz so it sit in between RTX 3090 and RTX 3090 Ti when power target was 91.8%.

If RTX 4080 12GB run at 100% power target then performance should be faster or on par to RTX 3090 Ti with 384 bit memory bus.
Accorded to AID64 GPGPU benchmark showed RTX 4080 12GB has 42 TFLOP FP32. RTX 3090 Ti has 40 TFLOP FP32, RTX 3090 has 35 TFLOP FP32, RTX 3080 Ti has 34 TFLOP FP32 and RTX 3080 12GB has 30 TFLOP FP32.
Maybe Nvidia will rebrand it as RTX 4070 Ti and sell it for $699 at CES 2023 that will make people happy with price compared to silly $900 with silly model number.

Maybe, just maybe, everyone has a connector of their own? But it's promising to hear that GN has tested every connector in the world. That should help us rest.

That isn't how these sort of things work, whether it be the recall of a car to a burnt 4090 power connector, it is the possibility of it happening that is as big an issue as it happening.

because if solder was an issue there should have been visible melting of cables as well

Solder should be a lot better than crimping, the guy hasn't got a clue.
If you are saying that the way it is soldered in this particular adapter is better than crimping, you are the one with no clue.
And in molex connectors, soldering is typically not wanted in general - its screems amateur to say the least.
