NVIDIA 4000 Series

I had both Evga 3090 ftw3 and the ROG Strix OC 3090 and both had it to some degree. The Strix was only noticeable at idle though, under load it was fine.

I had 3 Playstation 5's. First two had a constant buzzing, last one was perfectly silent. Kind of wish I wasn't so sensitive to it as its a right hassle.

Still my PC is well cooled and perfectly silent and with these new cards having excellent fans so the coil whine (if its there) is the only thing making a noise. I have 9 Bequiet Lightwing fans at a low RPM in a high air flow case and only SSD's, so no noise at all.

This was my first Suprim;

Yep like you say some people are really sensitive to it, I’m not bothered as long as it isn’t too bad and my case is on my desk so would be even worse. I can’t stand rattling, my glass panel was driving me nuts, I had to get them to change it under warranty.

You're lucky I had two Suprim's 4090's that whined, Voodoo Child has had three Suprims, CTaylor has had one.

Last gen the Suprim 3080 was my card of choice, it was amazing. This gen they have changed up the parts, its still brilliant in many areas but trying to play Uncharted with mine wasnt great.

Tempted for one last roll of the dice and then its AMD.
Surprised you guys havent ben blacklisted by the retailers for returning so many £2k+ GPU's :D

I cancelled my Tuf order even at the great price I got it from. Reviews saying it had worse coil whine than the FE and Suprim put me off.

Shouldn't be like this ordering a new card, to you know be able to just enjoy quiet scenes in games. Not sure what I'll do tbh.

Crazy we've got such powerful cards with loads of R and D into fan tech and cooling, yet cards "screaming" is accepted as normal.

If you want a card without it then Inno, Zotec and Pallet seem like the best ones. But what's annoying is the Zotec had loud fans, the Pallit has a poor pcb and the Inno isn't very premium for the premium price.

Not hyped about this gen because at least last gen there were high tier cards that performed silently.
I have read a few reviews and some I read said the Tuf was quieter than the FE for coil whine. That price really is good (whether they will actually get any next week remains to be seen). I have slightly changed my opinion and I think the TUF is my preferred choice over the FE, mainly due to the double HDMI outputs. Also getting a little frustrated by the lack of drops by nVidia for the FE.

Not when it's a cinema PC connected to a Dolby Atmos set up. :)
Turn up the volume then , i play on a 11.1 setup myself :D Seriously though if you want a silent card this gen them grab a Zotac and pop it in a water block , no coil whine ( or was none on my one ) and with it in a waterblock which will solve any issue with fans

I looked at a few videos on YouTube to listen for it on the TUF. Seemed around the same as the Suprim to me. I think ultimately if they all have it I'll have to suck it up or go AMD. It's a real lottery and more have it than don't this gen by the looks of it.

It's easily drowned out by any game sounds, its just games I play have down time, quiet periods where its just characters talking etc.

I might actually go Zotec. I'm going to read some in depth reviews on them tonight.

Yeah i know what you mean , my Strix annoyed me a tiny bit while playing Elden Ring as even though its only a 60fps game it still had an audibale bit of whine in the quiter sections of the game , I have a 4090 FE now and that has coil whine but coil whine itself i can live with as its a feature of most cards unfortunatly but can easily see how it can be annoying . My Zotac Trinity Oc had absolutely no whine at all even when running 450fps in heaven but did have fan issues . The FE whines a bit just sitting in the lobby in MW2 at 120fps but i can live with that :)

Open back headphones don't block out any sound, closed back have lower sound quality.

Absolutely but I very much doubt the average gamer is going to notice the negligible difference in audio quality with a pair of noise cancelling headphones.

Failing that, move the PC slightly further away. Sound pressure level halves with distance (inverse square law), so it wouldn’t take much to make a big difference.

Currently waiting on an FE waterblock… what AIB cards have a waterblock that’s available now?

If you want a quiet card my Suprim x is virtually silent. I think the reviews have it as the quietest 4090z

Yea my Suprim x is very quiet too, and runs nice and cool! Shame about my power adaptor being faulty.

I've read a couple people are hard locked at 108% 520w and unable to slide the power limit slider down. Do you have this issue with yours?

Cut in half?? What on earth? Never heard of a retailer asking for that before..::
I've heard of it before, its more common than you might think with cheaper items.

I've had a request to chop up something in the past as well, seems a waste to us but it likely costs the company less to do this than deal with disposal on their end. Hell I've had at least two companies say 'keep it' and refund the money or replace it when I said something was faulty... admittedly cheap items but still.

Can get an EK waterblock for the FE , Strix & Tuf and also a few of the Gigabyte cards . I have also seen a Byski block for the Zotac Trinity cards . Eventually I imagine every card will get a block of its own .

Is yours not like the youtube video I posted? Maybe 3rd time lucky lol.

Just tried RDR2 now to see. I'm capped at 175fps 3440x1440, and RDR2 does seem to give my card some coil whine, but not as loud as yours. When I look into the sky I notice it more.

Played around with the power limit, dropped it to 70%, hardly any drop in performance, and can't hear the coil whine. I do have my side panel closed tho.

Just to confirm, I'm assuming you can move your power slider to 108%? Sorry I'm asking most people I see with Suprim X's as I want to see if others have same issue as me or not.

Interesting, thanks. Uncharted was another bad one for me, with my cards (menu and in game, native 4k).

Both my Suprim's could go to 115%. I believe 108% is correct if your using the Performance Bios, as it starts higher.

The difference between open back and closed back isn't negligible, and a 4090 buyer isn't usually the type of person to use inferior equipment.

I don’t think anyone disputes that there’s no difference between the two types; but that’s not what you inferred. You said that closed back were worse, like any sort of noise cancelling headphones would be bad.

My point still stands; if you don’t like the noise get some decent headphones.
