NVIDIA 4000 Series

I would be interested in seeing some undervolt figures on how much it can actually save you vs leaving the card stock and letting it do its own thing without losing any performance .... so MW2 for example i get roughly 280W in mp with the clock at stock 2760Mhz at 116fps , would undervolting really give me 100W less usage for the fps and clockspeed vs what the card is doing itself .. i doubt it but would like to see. Feel free to test and share your results :)

This is getting a bit ridiculous, its now been delayed for the 7th day running. Might as well go pick it up from the depot myself, but of course you can't do that. Can't seem to contact DPD either their text chats all say unavailable and the call number on the site just goes through to some automatied tracking response, arent able to speak to an actual person.

Is it worth contacting the store instead?

you are technically overclocking the card though by setting the memory to +750 , as stock it will downclock the memory when not needed to save power :)
ive never seen the memory change as long as its in its performance state i did the same thing on the 3080 for past 2 years.

by stock i meant fps almost same

It will 100% downclock the memory in performance state when it doesn't need all the bandwidth as can be seen in the pic below where memory is at half its normal bandwidth due to low load , clock also very low ... this is all stock . FF7 its stupidly low .

I would be interested in seeing comparisons saving power via an undervolt vs stock at the same fps for sure :)

quick and dirty with only just putting gpu in

Nice so a 45w saving but it has dropped 3 boost bins to achieve that but not a drastic reduction in temp as it was not far off as stock , none the less a nice result :)
it hasnt dropped them like i said card only just went in and that must have been what i set it to. so was just quick and dirty:p

Any news about 4080s getting a price drop? Hope so!

Doubt it, not yet at least. It’s only just had a slight reduction in price. I can’t imagine we will see anything else until end of Q1 or in to Q2 next year.

But Nvidia might surprise me. I do doubt it though.

They aren’t historically known for significant price reductions!

<1% chance. AMD has nothing to compete with, Intel is a decade away from any kind of relevance and inflation is still running rampant. Imo the only price change will be an increase, for the 4090, but the 4080 seems priced "right" from Nvidia's perspective and according to the market. The $1200 price got well established with the 2080 Ti and then the 3080 Ti. The MSRP for 3080 was simply fake and not just due to miners. I guess we'll know more once we can see the next financial report.

All what's really happened is the 'covid supply restrictions' proved that people are stupid and will spend excessive amounts on gpu's... Nvidia (and AMD followed suit as many of us predicted) saw this, bumped the prices up this generation and are basically milking us for all we're worth.

THat's a key point. Times are different now. Historically NV don't drop their prices but we're going through economic conditions not seen for a long time. Prices have increased massively at a bad time. If supply exceeds demand, lower profit per unit will be better than none, if AMD & NV can't sell what they're making.

I'm not one to complain about prices and this is not even a whinge about current pricing either but I doubt the current pricing will be sustainable going through next year.

I think you are right, but it remains to be seen what happens. To my mind there are clearly lots of people (here at least) who are just chomping at the bit to buy an NVIDIA. It all comes down to what price the masses give up and start buying again. There are many factors, but I can't see it getting easier. The recession hasn't really bitten people yet, and this months energy bills are going to sting, especially if this weather continues. Who knows where this will all go?

^ agree, has to be a strange situation when the ampere overstock and the 4080 is still in stock and people wanting them yet they are still disgusted by the price tags. Just wait it out and see if they cave.

You know the 4080 is bad when none of the 3080 10GB users have upgraded, guess they must be waiting for the 4070 10GB.
