NVIDIA 4000 Series

Some just went straight to the 4090 Matthew. You know the ones that slabbered how expensive the 3090 was joke of a price. £700 > £1700. That's £2400 on two gpu's in the space of only two years! Jensen: "the more you buy the more you save".

i dont expect that to happen the way pricing is going, im still on a 1070 and looking at prices and using toms hardware hierarchy list at 1440p as a quick comparison tool, to double the performance id be looking at a minimum of a 6700xt or a 3070/high clocked 3060ti.

the only card that is priced within the limit of my old card £390 is a 6700xt from a us supplier at £374 which would no doubt get me spanked import taxes and random charges so thats out, everything else is 6650's and 3060's.

i hope come the new year we get some movement on uk pricing but im expecting the 4070ti (the 4080 10gig) to drop at the £799 at best, so no movement in the less insane price brackets.
I'm aware I will be waiting longer between upgrades now. It just means I part with my money less frequently, which is actually a bonus!

If I read that correctly then you are looking for a 100%+ increase?

If you were to go with 50% like i do, then a 1080ti/2080/3060 would fit that criteria or a 5700xt/6650 on AMD.

yeah after doubling my performance due to age of my gpu and the prospect il probably not upgrade for another 5 years the way prices are heading. guess im just finding it hard to swallow the comically bad pricing for mid range and older cards.

Yeahbbutt, 3080 owners still had £700 in their pocket from not being bent over with a 3090 being double the price for only 15% extra performance.

4090 is 3 times the price of 3080 but for 100% performance increase @4k.

3080>4090 be like, win win as they still had £700 in their pocket from the 3080

3090 owners got bent over 1st time round.

At least I've only been bent over once.

Can see why a 4090 to a 3090 owner will feel like getting bent over twice. Guess you gotta consider if you want to walk again. Guess you could play FC6 a year earlier though.

Glad I didnt get FC6 on release and pay x3 MSRP for the game - the AI is terrible - gotta play the game ONLY with a bow, dont use the Amigo's or the silly special weapons just to mak eit challeging even in the supposedlyt challeging Guerilla mode. Or is that "gpuerilla" game difficulty. Looks nice with RT on, but repetitive an not at all challenging as a shooter.

Let us know when you get a 4090 so we can watch you try and walk.

My limp has nearly gone.

Strictly used cards for me now I think, don't have the kind of disposable coin you need for the current market priced high end GPUs anymore. If I play it wisely should be able to grab a decent priced 4080 or 7900 XTX around the time of the next big launch. FSR and DLSS in the meantime :p

This gen is another turding as far as I am concerned. By the time prices come down we probably will be 6-12 months away from next gen cards anyway so I probably won’t bother. What was great about the 3080 FE was it was a lot GPU for the money and you got it from the beginning of the gen. AMD needed a card like that, instead we got a turd that is the 7900 XT.
To add some perspective the RTX2080 which was widely regarded as one of the poorest cards recently was 34% faster than a 1080 for a $100 or 17% price increase, the 4080 is 48% faster than the 3080 an increase of $500 or 71% and the the 7900XT is again 34% faster than the 6800XT for an increase of $250 or 39%.

So far the price increases outstrip the performance increases in every mid range card this generation with only the halo cards seeing positive increases due to their already high prices from last gen.

Came to my senses and returned both the 4090 and PSU.
Fair play to you my man, but please make a promise to the whole forum that you will not now go and spend a few hundred pound less on a 4080.

Yeah, if the 4090 and XTX came out at the same time, I'd be getting an XTX too.
If feasible, I say get both.

I've said before that I'm skipping the 4 series, very happy with my 3080 TIFE, but have to admit, I was tempted by the 4090 FE the other day.

Managed to hold on until it went out of stock.

You'll cave, as will many other 3080 owners. But to be fair, I don't recall you slating the 3090 price too much, although our boy @gpuerrilla may yet correct me on that. :D

I was semi tempted by the 4090, to go with my 13900k but eh, dunno, seems like a colossal waste of money going from a 3080 to a 4090 when I only game at 1440p :D

Shh, dont talk of semi's woodsta will be bobbing up! ;)

There were about a dozen to be fair but most of it was apparently in jest (definitely a couple had more than an interstellar conniption though). One downgraded, upgraded testing out nearly all the range ;) but most of that was just 'banter'.

You surely must remember Matthew. It wasn't that long ago? there was more than enough, 'no issues here' the prediction was the 10gb is enough tribe would be the first to ditch the post. Seems to be holding true.

We all remember the "its my money.." origins, but truth be told its none of my business who buys what but if you **** the 3090 then buy a 4090 you don't have a leg to stand on tbh.
