The 4090 was popular-enough to sell out initially, but the number of people who want/need it at over $2k (scalped) is drying up now.That, but also keep in mind they are double overpriced products, prescalped by Nvidia. If 4080 would have come as 3080 was to the 3090 (both in performance and price), you wouldn't have the same availability. Scalper would also run wild.
If these things could print money quickly the way they could during the mining boom, the demand would be virtually insatiable.
The answer to "How many money printers would you like to purchace?" was "MORE".
That market segment was limited by things like how much space they had for mining rigs and how much power they could pull from the grid at their location.
Now we are dealing mostly with gamers and scalpers and we seem to reaching equilibrium in a way that we never could when Ethereum was profitable to mine.
We are really lucky Ethereum went POS too. Ada has turned out to be very efficient and would have reuired less energy to print money. (So ROI would have been better than Ampere)
