NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

It's not about being able to afford is it. More about spending money wisely.
Only the young ones on here use the reply of being able to afford something lol. Very nieve and childish.

What you consider to be spending money wisely isn't the same for everyone, and it absolutely depends on your financial situation, which is why people set budgets and so on.

Ive been offered £993 by CEX for my zotac trinity OC 4090 and im thinking about taking this offer instead of the risk of using ebay. i pressume payment is prompt after receiving and inspection?

You could try the MM on here if you have access? Or Avforums.com. You'll be able to get more than what CEX will offer and you can also see feedback of buyers previous dealings

I'm 47 in March, do i need one no but i am going to buy one, why because i want one! It is not for you or anyone else to tell me what i spend my earnings on or to label me naive or childish for doing so

Not what I said. The ones saying oh you can't buy as you can't afford I'm who I refer to.

I think Nvidia were being nice and considerate to current 4090 owners by not releasing a 5080Ti 24GB card at £1,500.

As if!

Either the 3GB modules weren't ready for the release or they hired a consumer psychologist in to analyse the impact of a card sat between the 5080 and 5090. Current 4090 owners would be miffed as their cards would be even more devalued and it could syphon potential purchases from the 5090. There will be a 5080Ti in a year's time, I totally believe it.

You got to hand it to Nvidia, their marketing team is almost as clever as their engineers.

They are only just available and have been prioritised for mobile parts e.g. the 5090 mobile that's really a 5080 but with 24Gb (as 512bit isn't happening in a laptop)

A 80 series GPU with the 3GB GDDR7 modules is an easy win mid cycle for them.

Not necessarily an easy win depending on performance and price. If it performs closer to a 4080 than a 4090 and still costs £1k+... folks could better off buying a 2nd hand 4090.
It would be closer to a win if the price safely dropped down to 3 figures. But given what we're seeing even with the cheap Intel B570s and B580s, X3D CPUs and all other new tech jumping up in price, no doubt these Nvidia cards will just go up in price too.

50% performance gap was the same difference between a $500 3070 and $1500 3090 so it’s not unprecedented.
Except in that case, one was a 70 class card costing 3 figures (closer to what average folks could afford) and the other is a 4 figure flagship, costing triple the price of the former.
People who want the best will pay for it, regardless. We've seen from how badly the 4080 did, that few folks are interested in a pricey second fiddle.

Given that the 5080 will probably perform closer to a 4080 Super than a 4090, it will be interesting to see how well it actually sells.
Perhaps all the initial 5080 sales will be scalpers who couldn't beat the 5090 queues, hoping to make a quick buck.

What choice do people have if they want to upgrade, $2000 for the flagship or $1000 for a reskinned 70 class, AMD did offer an alternative last time around but I doubt they'll have anything that can compete at this level.

Yes, whenever I've had any dealings with them I've usually received payment within a couple of working days by bank transfer.

Option 3... the second hand market. The post above is selling a 4090 for just under £1k (admittedly to CEX who will mark it back up for profit).

Or option 4... don't upgrade. Lots of folks are doing that, I've been doing that the past decade too and will continue to do so if I deem that the products aren't worth the price
