NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

That is just PC latency, there's also monitor latency added to it, mouse latency etc. Every bit adds up and you can end up in a nasty place depending on your gear outside PC itself (monitor, keyboard/mouse/controller etc.). To measure that you need special gear, though - software by itself can't show it. In I.J. NVidia's panel doesn't show full latency with FG either - numbers are similar between it and CP2077 yet I.J. feels considerably worse to me, even with higher input FPS. Unless one tests with mentioned gear, I wouldn't fully trust the software. We'll have to wait for a proper input lag tests done by GN and other people who have proper hardware to do it.
Render latency is one thing, but you could also have the character respond/act differently to player input. Sometimes, I guess, is purposely done with a bit of lag in order to have animations work as intended.

Anyway, render latency is what matters in this case, just like how you try to measure GPU performance as much as possible in scenarios that rely on the GPU itself and not be influenced by the CPU or other components.

Moreover, latency importance is more about what the players feels comfortable with. I can play with 80-90ms latency just fine in 99% of cases. Not ideal, but good enough when the game justifies it. Even FPS games.

I was playing crisis low 20fps back in the day to experience it maxed out on my heavily over locked 8800 GTS.

Now you have people so spoilt that 50ms is too much. Lol

I was playing Half-Life at 4-12fps (I think 4 was the lowest the counter went, even though sometimes it was definitely lower) at a whopping resolution of 640x480 .... on dialup xD I'm glad we're not in those dark dark (yet somehow fun) days anymore

Wow. Lol.

I don't recall what fps, but it was much smoother than crysis as I had a Radeon 9700 Pro back then :D

Was on a Pentium 2 300mhz, 16mb ram, ATi Rage Pro 4mb.... It. Was. Glorious. xD (think my hdd was 4gb too. Sounds about right.)

Now I'm on 9800x3d, 64gb ram, one of my nvme drives (my game one) is 8tb... and I'll have a 5090 when stock becomes available :p How far we've come.

Oh sorry I read that as Half Life 2. I was thinking bloody hell that spec is old for that time period. Had to reread you post. Lol.

No idea what I had when Half Life came out.

A £200 GPU that gave you 20fps, roll on to now and we have a £2000 GPU offering 28fps... people really are spoilt.

It is if you really think about it.

What percentage of games out there perform this way? 0.00001%?

Not just that, is that not with RT on? Maybe turn it off for said game? Maybe use DLSS etc etc :D

For those waiting for the 60 series, what if it comes out on a new node and it’s 50% faster than the 5090 and the fe model is £2299 are you gonna buy?
Yes.. anyone thinking that the 90 series or equivilant will go down in price is kidding themselves, if we are lucky it will stay the same price or thereabouts... Which sucks but unfortunately that's the way things are.

Preach

Less that 120fps I don't get out of bed.

I listen to DF more than I listen to my own wife...amirite!
It's funny. I used to be a console gamer (would always buy both the Xbox and PS), and slowly got more and more sick of 30fps games. It was so bad in some that i got headaches playing them. The 5900X + 3080 was my first dip into the PC gaming world, and now 9800X3D + 4090 + 4k 240hz. There is no going back.

100%, because i'm a complete tool. No rational person should spend that much on a gaming only PC, but hey ho. Maybe 4k 360hz monitors will be announced around then....
Haha true, but if its your hobby, doesn't put you in any financial problems and you want it, then why the hell not? :D

For some reason though i do have a more level head when it comes to the 5000 series, i guess the excitement and uplift just hasn't grabbed me this time although the uplift isn't much to be excited about lol

I'm slowly leaning that way too. Realistically, my I don't play many GPU-bound games, and if i do, it's in a situation where I don't need to hit 240hz (single player games). But does that mean I won't buy a 5090 FE if I see it in stock? No comment :D

I was about to write about playing Doom clone games on Amiga with 3-5fps at most but that was a very different cost and I was a poor youngling. When I pay much more monies I expect much for that indeed and not going back to the past. :p

Give me sensibly priced 400Hz+ OLED gaming monitor and I might look at mfg again (as no way one can display that many FPS without it). :) For 165fps max I feel 0 need to use mfg.
