NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

The 5080 is meh only because its not much better than a 4080S (compared with 3080 to 4080), but from a 3080 to 5080 its nearly a double of performance...
According to techpowerup the 5080 66% faster than a 3080 for 42% more money after 4 years.

For context the 3080 was 126% faster than a GTX1080 after 4 years for 17% more money.

The more I hear about the 5080 the more I think Nvidia will launch a Ti version in 6 months that sits where the 4090 is now. Not impressed with the 5080 reviews. Looks like I’ll have to jump on the 5090 train too.

And charge the original 4090 prices for it.

I don’t mean this to sound insulting, but you think the 5080 sucks, so you will reward Nvidia by buying their overpriced 5090. Then people wonder why we have reached this point with GPU “refreshes” and prices.

The 5090 train after the 5080 users get on:

Isn't that there point though Nvidia know what they are doing. Make the 5080 just good enough to be an 80 card but so far behind the 90 that it almost looks like good value. They've been doing it for years

I fully expect that too but in the here and now the gap between 80 & 90 is just a glorified buffer for the AiB partners to spill into and not cause potential buyers to just YOLO into the 90 card instead.

Pretty much it's working to upsell people to the 5090 whilst being £1000 more , crazy times

Nvidia obviously are not keen to waste wafer supply on 2k 5090s when they can sell ai cards for thousands more, upselling was never on the cards. It's just nvidia have put gaming on the back burner.

A song to go with this generation... Starts at the appropriate point I mean. (old timers on here will know it well)

After seeing the reviews now for both the 5090 and 5080.. This generation to me is one of the worst Nvidia has given us in a long time, sadly the only good thing that may come out of it is people may finally wake up to what is happening and why it is better to keep your wallets in your pocket, instead of buying some Vaseline and giving Nvidia your money this generation and playing the fool with FOMO (as the song states above too).

Anyways hoping 60 series fix some of these issues with a die shrink and Nvidia wakes up to the silly pricing... the 5080 is nothing more than again a 70 class card at $1000 now... Insane really.

I wonder if we'll see a refresh on a die shrink within the next year or so.

An RTX 5070 Ti Super and RTX 5080 Super, with lower power consumption, improved power VS performance. Maybe even the unreleased full 5090 'Ti' chip, which would be 800 Watt on current die, will see a shrink down to around an 600W behemoth.

I dunno, peasants like me are not in the position to spend £2000 on a GPU.

Hello Mr Nvidia, one 5080 please.

They don't care , it saves silicone for AI, and getting 5090 sales is nice , screw the rest of the stack buyers

If that was their goal - they failed. They didn't make the 5080 anywhere close to good enough to be an 80 card -- it's very clear, to everybody, that it's a 70 class card with 70 class performance.
