NVIDIA 780 Ti Announced (18/10/13)

LOL, when did Nvidia become a behemoth? Is it in CPUs, no that's not it... no wait is it with Tegra, no that's not it either. Oh wait, it in consoles... nope. Oh GPUs, ah OK.

Nvidia have been trying for a long time to become diversify away from GPUs and have failed. Now had you said Intel was a behemoth I would understand.

Uhhhm, you seem to have a serious chip on your shoulder about something.

Chill the hell out? Even the most ravaging AMD fanboy would agree nVidia are the much larger GPU company in terms of brand and consumer reach.

Fact is whether you like it or not Nvidia are bigger than AMD in the discrete GPU market, they have the brand power, they have many gamer oriented features. AMD need to compete on more than just performance to nail a sale, they need way better pricing than the green team, especially if the 290x is as close in performance to the 780 as it looks from benchmarks.

The 780ti announcement has put an even bigger dampner on things for AMD.

So, we know next to nothing about this card, next to nothing about its pricing, next to nothing about he 290x, next to nothing about the 290x pricing and people are seriously going to argue over one killing the other?

Oh come on. One will be better than the other, by only a very small bit probably. We don't know which yet. We don't know the prices of either. How about we wait till we actually know something, anything before flying our GPU preference flags? I mean, I know everyone will raise the same flag then as they're flying now but at least we'll have to pretend to use logic.

Exactly. R9 290X was at best going to trade blows with GTX780 and Titan, GTX780Ti is not going to change the status quo by a significant amount.

I would not call 22% difference very close through the range of games leaked. the 2 games amd leaked were also not close especially when you consider that the r9 290x was around 17% faster and running in slow mode (quiet mode)

It will, to a certain degree. It has basically stolen sales from AMD already. Anyone who was unsure or wanted to stick with nVidia on their next upgrade will wait out the 780TI release.

Mid-november is right around the corner, if this was a Q1/2 2014 launch I would agree with you. Assuming nVidia plan to deliver on that date who in the right mind would buy a 290X as an upgrade path with nVidias supposed new flagship JUST around the corner?

So why so much hype with the 290x when it's so close? Oh I know why because this forum is now 90% AMD because in the last year AMD did something good with 7 series pricing.

Nvidia do have brand power but it only goes so far. R9 290X pricing and performance is not clarified yet and the usual suspects are stating it is a dud because Nvidia announced a GTX780Ti.

I'm sick of reading the rabid "Nvidia is teh awsum" posts from idiots who's only goal in life is to **** off to Nvidia. It's hypocritical to read "Meh R9 290X doesn't look that great" but when Nvidia even mention a slightly beefed up GTX780Ti it gets hailed as the next coming of Christ.

What on earth are you on about?

I've not posted ANY images about AMD anywhere?!

I did not state the 290X was a dud, I said the launch (what little we know thus far) has been tarnished. And it has, anyone denying that is fooling themselves. There are no 2 ways about it, this news will make some people think twice about a 290X now, and if that is not tarnish then I don't know what is.

You are clearly a mentalist however, so you make ignore!

It's funny how speculation is ok when AMD fanbois are posting stuff like 290X titan killer lmao at those who paid so much for titan, then when nvidia announces a potential counter to the whole hype and the nvidia lads throw some banter about the AMD bois get all serious.

Yep, seriously considering ditching my pre-order now, particularly as regards G-Sync, just need to find out more about monitor availability.

I remember only a few days ago people telling me Nvidia were dead in the water. 'Nvidia couldn't possibly compete with AMD's Mantle', and 'AMD own the market because of the consoles'. I told ya Nvidia wouldn't just sit back and let AMD take over. Those doom mongers must feel foolish now eh.

Hehehe

:D

Every single high end GPU release get hyped on a GPU forum. As the release date approaches the hype increases and the fundamentalists from both sides polarise opinion from "meh, too little too late", to "this is going to be awesome". Then we have the tools who actually believe the next GPU and or feature release from their favourite faceless corporation is somehow going to destroy their perceived "enemy corporation".

The cycle continues.

So why can't people hype the 780ti in the same way as people hyped the 290x saying "LOL TITAN KILLER FOR HALF THE PRICE".
