nVidia 8800GT + Antec Quattro PSU = Lack Of Power!

Why have you got a 1000w power supply?

Going by power supply efficiency curves, if you don't put substantial percentage of total load on a power supply, they run at a lower efficiency.

A quad core system, with 8800GTX SLi pulls about 600w...

not to mension the excess hest generated when running at lower efficiency, for a single card solution I cant see people needing more than my old 550W

it would be nice if you could tell with software, what your psu is drawing, good idea for the future maybe. Thats some free advice right there mobo and psu manufactures.

if your gonna get a different PSU, get an enermax or PC P&C, the Corsair are stable PSUs but the cables are badly made, the connectors break easilly

deffinatly the psu mate, see my thread, tried another cheap generic psu and it works a charm :)

Fab lol ive only just built this system last week as an upgrade anyone know what antec / nvidia are going to do :confused:

do i A.forget the quattro 850w and buy a cheepo one :( not the best option to lose a psu that cost that much

or B. wait for a fix ?

I was close to buying the Quadro 1000 as an upgrade from my Enermax 620W.

If thats a modern one dont.

Enermax is one of if not the best brands, the Inifinit's are superb, there is plenty posts about Corsair's blowing up recently and also Antec (I used to use them) had bad caps in past and dodgy 5v rails on Pure Powers, but they now use Seasonic so should be ok.

All sorted now . . . . . phew!

As you can see I just swapped out the Antec Quattro 1000w for a Corsair HX 620w and everything works great!

Really like the HX PSU, those thin modular leads are pure genius and it is very quite indeed!

Thanks to everyone who gave feedback and suggestions, what would we do without the forums eh! ;)
