NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

I ultimately will be happy to fork out for this due to the fact I've had my 1080ti 3 years now. I'm ready for something else.

Woop woop! I need some juicy next-gen news, I have had my GTX 1070 for just over 3 years now! Actually, the fact it still runs many things that I play fine at 1080p and 1440p shows how long a 3080 Ti would probably last me. :D

I am really struggling whether I should build a home gaming desktop with AMD 4000 and 3080Ti and then just enjoy it for the next 3-5 years (which actually makes it a reasonably palatable investment)... or wait for the notebook version and buy a badass gaming laptop (which will last me less time and is more prone to unfortunate accidents like me spilling drinks on it).

I said I would never build another desktop system, but that was before AMD came back on the scene and now I think the chances of getting an AMD 4000 mobile CPU with a high-end Nvidia GPU are pretty much negligible for the forseeable future thanks to Intel's pressure on their partners.

I am leaning towards the desktop option, which would likely be overkill but would last me ages even at 4k resolution with the games I like to play. I could also run a 20m HDMI cable to my living room TV and have the option to game in there on the big screen if/when I wanted.

If only there was an external GPU enclosure with connectivity that had no loss of performance... it would make things much simpler as I could then get a notebook like the AMD G14 and have the best of both worlds. Sigh.

To afford a 3080Ti...You indeed must be a Rich Dog ;)

Yeah just to taper expectations. GTC is not for gaming, even though it looks like Ampere will be shown, it's going to be all the HPC cards that we've been seeing on benchmarks in the last couple months including the 8100core behemoth that demolishes the 2080ti by 70%

And im calling it now they won't be called 3070etc

Yup it does seem strange that so far only Apple have realized that the number 11 follows 10, but with NVidia already having the 20XX series i suppose 21XX would be too much for hope for so 30xx would be the next logical choice.

I'm going for / staying at 1440p for a few more years. Would've went for a 3070-equivalent up until a few years ago, but absolutely regardless of naming: I'll be getting whatever is best in the close vicinity of a 2070S or below, and if they price the "3060" there but it performs well enough, I'll get that and be happy.

nVidia will only use 11, 21, etc. (or 16) for refreshes, etc. they also don't seem to like the number 3 for some reason.
