NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

The 2080ti is going to go down as the worst gpu purchase ever isn't it.

**** me if the rtx3060 matches the 2080ti and only costs $399
The 3060 will likely match or exceed the 2080ti at RT performance (after all Ampere is meant to have 4x the RT performance of Turing)... but very likely not in overall brute performance as that would not make logical sense at all.

I'm just looking at the ti prices now, a few of them have magically shot up to £1500...even that pos gigabyte aorus. The msi trio has managed to hit £1400, that was one of the "cheaper" ti's at around £1200 at launch....
That’s either due to supply shortages or the inevitable fake discount “we’ve slashed the price” and all that nonsense

If I had a 2080Ti I would be selling it about now (actually I would have sold mine already). The price on those will tank... At most keep it until August, many uninformed/impatient people will still pay top dollar, but maybe not as much as now.

I did not even pick one up last year when someone was selling one on members market for under £700. Once the 3000 series is out only noobs will pay more than £500 for one when you can get a 3070 which will be a much better balance card where enabling RT won’t tank your fps nearly as badly. Also there is the possibility of space invaders with the 2000 series. Be mad to get a 2080Ti second hand over a 3070.

One thing for certain is you would be stupid buying a 3xxx non TI as an early adopter for them to only release a Super 6 months later.
That is far from certain. I will likely grab a RTX 3070 to play Cyberpunk 2077. Plus there is Dying Light 2 and Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines 2 coming out all this year. I ain’t waiting for a possible $uper range.

I got mine for £1000 on release. So it will have cost me under £10 a week.
Lol. That’s like less than £1.50 a day... Bargain!

Right, I am buying the next Titan, should be less than £5 a day, bargain really.

Jensen would probably not mind employing you sir :p:D

I'm referring to it's second hand value once Ampere has launched. For instance I was able to sell my 1080ti for 90% of what I paid - but for the 2080ti it looks like I'm going to get well under 50%

I paid 1200 pounds for my asus strix 2080ti by pre ordering it before stock even arrived, I was one of the first in the country to have it

How much do you spend on booze? Your phone? The lottery? Newspaper?
As I was alluding to in my post, I don’t look at it like that. If I did I would be spending a lot more.

Plus the point here is 2080Ti will lose a lot of value soon. This can yet be mostly mitigated by selling soon, otherwise essentially the cost of owning the card will have mostly come from the use of it in the last couple of months leading up to the release of the 3000 series. Obviously some are less bothered by this and will keep it anyway as one can just say what’s £500? Couple of nights out? :p

Why on earth would they release one 6 months later? That makes no logical sense.

It was a throwaway suggestion but they did do a 2060 then a 2060 super. So its not entirely impossible. I was a little gutted as I bought a 2080 one month later 2080 super appeared. However its not stopped me playing any games at the settings I want to.

Spending £500+ to play 3 games though that you might not need to spend...... Just saying.

Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing.

£40 a month on a GPU is not insignificant :p

Especially if you justify all your purchases this way.

£40pm on a GPU, £15pm on a CPU, £10pm on a mobo, £30pm on your phone, yadda, yadda.

Before long you're spending £100s each month AND you're paying this for years. You can't "stop" making those monthly payments :p

It’s all on how you look at it. The next card the 3080 will likely be 30%ish faster than the 2080Ti. Now if that’s going to cost you £800 in losses after you’ve sold your Ti. It’s not really worth it unless you must have shiny shiny, at which point money is no object anyway.

That’s why it’s always best to go Ti-Ti if value is in mind. As you’d only go through the same process again with the 3080 once the Ti is released.

The only other option is to sell before release. But then you’re left with no card for what could be release and months of waiting for stock.

I would say just buy a card on release and enjoy it... the Supers are not enough of a performance increase to get too bothered about. Especially when you can anyway overclock the stock cards.

Those are 3 upcoming must play games for me, there are others too, just not as high on my list, also my current steam library would all run 60fps at 4K on a RTX 3070. Plus it is nice to get new shiny tech, at least this time the RT will make sense as there will be games to play and it won't tank your fps nearly as badly as the 2000 series does. Not to mention this time DLSS will work :)

Now that it is arriving it makes zero sense to wait another 6 months because a super edition might or might not come out. Just does not add up. Just saying ;)
